'It is known, from sources within the Roach camp, that despite working on reshaping and remoulding the young British fighter’s style, specifically with regard to his defence and in varying the angles of his attack, concern remains over Khan’s propensity to rush in with wild flurries and leave himself open to being countered. His old habit of leaving his hand out after throwing a right hand has also resurfaced during sparring on odd occasions, which against a fighter of Kotelnik’s experience could prove fatal..'

Is this just a minor hiccup or something major within khans preparation for kotelnik. This coupled with that sparring footage which was released by Khans own promoter Frank warren is leading me to believe that khan is going to get stopped again.

it's a shame he hasnt been with freddie for longer. if he'd of had a few more camps with roach then these problems might have been ironed out by now, but as it is, he's already at championship level and he cant go back to learning fights at this stage of his career.

i reckon if he does win he'll have to get up off the deck at least once.

:goodThat's the key point. Give the bloke some time- three camps is nothing compared to a whole career worth of training and habits.

As I said on the other thread, this is a serious problem against Kotelnik who is an accomplished counter-puncher and has a stiff left hook. I wouldn't be surprised if Khan gets put down at some point.

They have rushed him. its there own fault putting him on box office, he has to start fighting for world titles.

the fact that they will give up the belt if he wins rather than fight maidana is bull****.

I agree this fight has come two fights early at a minimum.

To be fair, Bunce asked Roach this question directly on yesterday's bunce hour - words to the effect: "is it true that khan will give up the belt if he wins to avoid some of the mandatory fighters", Roach's explanation was that it wouldn't make sense from a risk/reward perspective for Khan to take on low money / kudos power punchers such as Maidana. Why take on such a hard fight for so little money, especially when Khan can take on the likes of Hatton or Morales?

He also suggested that fighting people like Maidana and other riskier fighters would happen when Khan has developed / matured.

Makes sense to me - it's all about risk/reward.

In my honest opinion Khan did not change against ***an or MAB. His mindset etc is tweaking and he might be using the jab a bit more but his technical flaws are still there. Khan fought a smarter fight but he fought like an amateur boxing, moving and firing flurries.

I'm still backing Khan cos he is a Brit and an Olympian.

I think people making to much of this spar what Khan had on Monday in his gym in Bolton, i mean he is 5 days away from fight night do you people really think Khan will be going all out? It was a bad spar, but the real sparing took place in L.A where I have been reading and watching good reports, i dont know where this guy who wrote this article got his info?

I will give you a recent interview (after the delay and Khan 2nd mini camp in L.A) with Khan's sparing partner R.Holloway who is also Pacman sparing partner.

Holloway is saying Khan is becoming more of a thinking fighter, and rates him top 3 at 140.

It sets a very poor precedent when people win a title and then give it up straight away to avoid their mandatory.

It's a straight up ***** move. Imagine if everybody did that...what kind of joke sport would we have where a 'champion' is afraid to defend his title.

your probably right about this. its killing the sport. the lads talking about fighting marquee names and he only wants to fight certain kinds of fighters. is he a man and a fighter or not?

People need to remember Khan is still only 22, he still needs time to peak and develop, rushing him further could result in a loss again, Khan has already said he is not ready for the top fighters. If he wins a title at 27 and gives it up for a bad reason than thats a ***** move.

If he's not ready to fight world class fighters he should have continued his education in the proper way.

It's just inexcusable to win and then immediately relinquish a world title.

Cherrypicking a bloated Morales 2 years after he lost to David Diaz...

It's this kind of **** that makes people want Kotelnik to win. He's a real champion that will conduct himself properly.
