In that case, Trinidad by decision. No way he stops Duran but a 37 yr old Duran 4 weights above his best weight aint gonna beat a prime Trinidad 1 or 2 weights above his best weight + Trinidad`s frame suited MWT better than Duran`s. Now, the best of each guy at WWT goes to Roberto by KO IMO but thats another thing entirely.
The Duran who fought Barkley proved to be skilled and durable. His handspeed that night was perhaps overlooked considering his age and the weight he was at. Do you entirely rule out this happening to Tito? This content is protected
He doesnt have to be when he himself is in his prime, better suited to the weight & the other guy has had about 90 fights & 37 yrs old.
Not entirely but I certainly wouldnt bet on it. My hard earned would be a Tito pts win, might win, might lose, we`ll never know
Hi sorry to sound like an idiot or whatever, but what do you mean by the legs of stone part? And how they used their legs to get him inside?
I think you meant to quote me for your question. "Legs of Stone" merely describes how the older, heavier Duran ("Hands of Stone") no longer had the mobility to quickly get inside or cut the ring off on movers. After Leonard I, you never saw him shoot inside like that on anyone. (In fact, you never saw him look like that again either although he was in damn good shape for Hagler.) He more or less needed guys to come to him or stand still to look good against most of the MW/SMW's that he fought.
ok thanks alot Stonehand. i gotta say i have been sick today and yesterday and it has been great to go through the classic section and read through these threads, keep up the good work all.:good
Don't think Tito was 'prime' but certainly pretty good. I say Tito by decision, with both men going down once each.
Duran shocks by winning a decision over Trinidad after scoring a knockdown in the 3rd. A close, hard fight with Trinidad the harder puncher but Duran being too smart and savvy. But why just 12 rounds? 15 should be the championship limit, which Duran was more than adept in navigating, whereas Trinidad never had that experience.
I'd have 2 go for Tito on points just, Duran surpassed himself that night in Atlantic City, it's his greatest victory IMO, maybe the 3 blind mice may give Duran the sentimental vote as in the Barclay fight:think How he stayed up in the 8th from that Barclay Hammer i'll never know:shock:
Barclay? Three blind mice? Come on. I can see that the fight could've gone either way but Duran finished awfully strong. It's not that controversial. And Tito's style was precisely the kind that a MW, inspired Duran would take apart. Barkley was far more dynamic that night than Tito could ever have been -in fact, it was Barkley's peak performance in my opinion.
I did'nt say the fight was controversial:nono I went nuts when he won:nut & the only thing that ****ed up the victory was Michael Buffers Microphone, i really wanted 2 hear the crowd freak out when Duran the Great was hailed Champ. When i refer too the 3 blind mice is a generilisation as 2 **** knows how they'd see it, i.e one judge in the Hagler/Leonard had it 118/110 for Leonard & 118/112 for Roberto in the Barclay fight. I'am either way with this fight & as we both know Roberto had 2 be up 4 the fight & depending who he was up against we'd never know which Roberto would show up, against Barclay he def wanted it, as Barclay was a mate of Davey Moore & publicly said that this fight was 4 davey & Duran's getting it. It was after that 8th round that Roberto got his 2nd wind (as Gil Clancy said) that Roberto put the rounds in the bank with that fabulous do or die final surge, but 2 judges had Duran well up:huh & i've been accused ov being a Duran nutthugger by some of the pricks on here, but i had it real real close & it could've gone either way but as i said Roberto's allways going 2 get my & everyone else's sentemental vote 4 who he is & 4 what he's acheived & 4 fighting 4 div's up from his immortal best:happy
