Help wanted

Welsh Warriors is a boxing site devoted to welsh fighters and boxing heritage.

They are considering adding a profile of Tommy West at my suggestion but have requested some information about his life before his boxing career.

West was born in Cardif but his earliest recorded fights are in the United States.

They are particularly interested in the question of when he settled in the United States and whether he fought in the United Kingdom.

West was 22 at the time of his first fight which we have record of today making it highly likley that he has a significant number of unrecorded fights.

I would consider a profile of Tommy West on this site a positive result because his boxing career should get more exposure.

Basicaly I have sh1t loads of newspaper articles about Wests prime boxing career but nothing before he was 22 in terms of either his personal life or his boxing career.

He was 22 at the time of his first recorded fight on boxrec which is old for the period. That suggests that he almost certainly has a lot of unrecorded fights and possibly some in the UK.

This is a the kind of exercise I relish because I have a blank canvas to start with and whatever I find it will likley turn things on their head.

West was born in Cardiff and that is all that we know that connects him to Wales.

The only articles I have been able to dig up are about his boxing career in America.

He was born 29-05-1870

His first recorded fight was 28-04 1892 and that was against a world champion.

Something is obviously missing.
