Herol Graham though came a cropper because of that style - Julian Jackson is one fighter who fighting in the Ingle style is sucidal too - and so it proved.
Kell Brook might be a decent fighter but it be hard for anyone to come along and be as good as Naz for a long time.
I hate how any fighter out of the ingle Gym = Naz's. Its not as if there isn't other fighters to compare them with. Brook is good but he isn't anything like Naz.
you need to be athletic, have incredible reflexes and punch like a mule to bail you out, this style will only work for the right person and to impose it on everyone who walks through that gym is just ridiculous, its the worst style when it goes wrong and sets boxing back 500 years, completely against the manual of the sweet science. herol was more conventional, slick and fundamentally sound then most that come out of that gym, the guy could box
I agree! Massive respect for Ingle and all he has achieved,but,i cannot name one of his fighters(and that's going right back to Bomber Graham) who showed even the most basic of defensive nous.
I feel a bit guilty when criticising somebody as popular as Brendan Ingle who, by all accounts, is a truely lovely guy who lives for boxing. However, I think he trains too much with a "One size fits all" approach. Surely Yorkshire hasn't got all these young lads coming through who are all tricky, hands down and potential clowns in the ring? Why doesn't he train fighters to use their own strengths rather than trying to fight in the "Ingle style"? The amount of Ingle fighters who are poor at the moment is unbelievable. At York Hall on Saturday everyone of them looked nothing more than ordinary. If I was a father in the North with a boy who wanted to box I certainly wouldn't send him to the Ingle camp.
Graham came a cropper against Jackson because he was trying to knock the guy out..... not because of the style he was using.
It only works for certain gifted fighters. Fair dues to Ingle he has produced so many champions from his gym. Problem is when they have all come against a true quality operator/cream of the crop they look absolutely awful. Hamed was awesome, a true talent, a freak but once he came up agaisnt a Top Top Pound for Pound fighter he was ****ing embarrased. When the Ingles have a bad day at the office they look really bad, they never adopt the plan B option of putting their hands up even when they are getting smacked about the ring. All it takes is one wrong movement and their chins end up in the sky waiting to get Knocked The **** out! i.e Herol Graham. Brooke will get far but as soon as he faces a top level fighter who works out his style he will get smashed to bits!! Also once they get older and lose the reflexes its a wrap!
