    This is another ridiculous thread.

By definition all boxers who achieve world champion status have SKILL IN BOXING.

Marciano as the first listed is so ****ing absurd I was hoping this was a joke thread. How else besides skill does a slope-shouldered midget become heavyweight world champion?

Some need to look at what passes for skill in their mind (perhaps Camacho or Judah or some slick America's Got Talent dancer) and remember this is fighting.

To be sure, S, one would have to have a superior facility at fighting with his fists to become a professional boxing champion, but in the case of Paddy DeMarco, "The Billygoat," you'd 've been hard-pressed to discern it.

He was a mugger/swarmer who couldn't box or punch but amazingly ascended the pinnacle and became Lightweight Champion of the World.

Perhaps his art was beyond your appreciation, but his effectiveness does not belie it's veracity.

Effectiveness is the real arbiter of the boxing arts. I think spectators (and judges) are too often swayed by showmanship and dancing to no aggressive or even defensive effect.

I recognize the accomplishment of just getting there, S...It's the bottom line.

There are many intangibles in boxing:
    What is skill?
    What is ability?

The bottom line is whether you can get the job done or not.

If you win a world title...you win a world title.

Were you fancy doing it? Were you totally dominant? Was it a memorable fight?

Doesn't matter does it? If you win within the rules you were the better man, the better fighter, and most importantly the world champ!

Perhaps a better title for this thread would be:

    "Fighters who never had much
    This content is protected
    , but still become champion?"

Anyway, I think Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini fits the idea

This "skilled" "unskilled" distinction I've always found a bit arbitrary. It's a skill to have a good chin, to work hard, to have a good engine, to have a good heart, etc. I guess some people got lucky to win a championship, though (*cough* Froch *cough*).
