warren /roach i see trouble ahead

you make a good point mate, roach doesnt like to bull**** himself, his fighter and the boxing public whilst warren seems to make a living that way. freddie doesnt seem to be a yes man either and if push came to shove, considering what roach has done for him, khan would side with roach and then warren, as appears to be his custom, would sue his ass

 

surely frank will make more money from Khan going into big money fights over the in the US? I'd think he would be rubbing his hands together at the thought.

As for sky, would it be a big deal for them to show it live (yes at 3:30am) but also repeats during UK day time / evening?

As a boxing fan, i'd love to see Khan take on the US fighters. It might also force the British newspapers and media to pay more attention to boxing too!

 

seems more likely to me that roach will want to see his 2nd biggest earner keep winning. I think its Roach that has been so adamant that Khan will not fight Maidana.

 

I'm going to have to agree with you, but there is always the possibilty that Khan could fight as the co-main event at a top Vegas bill.... Cotto vs Pacquiao is on November..... Warren gets on well with Arum.... so why not?

I'm sure that Roach won't mind if he stayed at home and fought Hatton either.... so there is lots they can work on.... but I still see them having tension together as they're both very opinionated and very confident at what they do.

 

Good points but just have to point out one thing. You can't say that Roach is happy to throw his fighters into 50/50 fights when he is talking up an Eric Morales fight, when I heard him mention his name I was utterly horrified.

 

one thing is for sure - Roach will tell Warren he either lets him do it his way or he is gone. Roach dont need to bum lick Warren he is a successful US based trainer of fighters Warren does not promote like over the years - Tyson, De La Hoya, James Toney and now Manny Pac.

 

I dont think Roach throws his fighters into 50/50 fights.

They may seem like 50/50 to us but not to him. ODLH, Hatton, Kotelnek - majority saw Pac/Khan as either underdog or 50/50 - but done of them were close were they?

Again Cotto v Pac is another 50/50 to me but maybe Roach already knows how Pac will beat him

 

You lot may need to consider that Freddie Roach does not manage or promote Khan. He gets Khan physically and technically and mentally ready to fight.

Will Khan stay with Warren, how many fights does he owe him, do they have any "verbal" agreements that Warren might hold him to? Khan does seem as though he wants to go stateside, but he won't want to abandon the UK will he?

Warren's big boys seem to leave him after their big wins.

 

I think Freddie has alot to do with who Khan will be fighting..... Is it just me or does Freddie seem very excited about Khan, he has already said he is his new big thing, what do you guys make of that

The following is taken from the ring website :Khan’s trainer, Freddie Roach, who is given much of the credit for the 22-year-old boxer’s rebirth, says the Bolton, England native is a free agent as of this week.

“The Kotelnik fight was Khan’s last with Frank Warren,” Roach told RingTV.com from his Wild Card Boxing Club on Monday.

The veteran trainer said Khan will field offers from Warren, Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank over the next two weeks, so it appears the young titleholder and his inner circle have some thinking to do.

Warren, Britain’s premiere promoter, has represented Khan since the fighter’s final amateur bout and has promoted all of his professional bouts. Warren developed Khan into a bona fide attraction in Britain (primarily in Manchester and London) and he has the connections -- with UK networks and major venues -- to continue to build Khan regardless of whom the budding star fights.

 

Calzaghe V Hopkins was a 50/50 fight.

Although in that fight I feel Freddie Roach underestimated Joe Calzaghe and just thought he was a protected Euro fighter. Calzaghe was alot better than that and I think Roach thought they would win quite easily.

He got it wrong - and Hopkins and team found out Calzaghe was for real.

On the flip side of the coin - I feel Calzaghe unerestimated old man Popkins and thought he would win easily.

I think Calzaghe V Hopkins was a case of both fighters underestimating each other.

And although there is bad blood and dislike there - I'm sure secretly both fighters have a respect for each other now after 12 tough rounds.

 

How much input did Roach actually have with this fight? Bhop had 3 different trainers for the Calzaghe fight and lets not forget, Roach was nothing but a hired hand. I wouldnt read too much into this fight from a Roach fighters point of view

 

Roach was at the press conferences at said he felt Hopkins would just prove to strong for Calzaghe and Roach laughed off Calzaghes claim that he would be the first man to stop Hopkins.

I am unsure of how much he was invovled in training Hopkins because he had that Hasim guy trainer / conditoner with him too.

But Roach was defenitly invovled in that camp and fight.

Another fight that Roach was invovled in though and had the underdog fighter was De La Hoya V Mayweather. I feel Roach did a good job there of squeezing out what was left of Oscar and they made it a competitive fight.

 

Thanks Aztec, I was under the impression that Nazim was he main man during that camp and Roach was just a hired hand, thats what I get for getting my boxing info from the sun at that point
