There is also the reality that the SMW division did not exist until 1984. Murray Sutherland who hailed from Scotland was the very first SMW Champion. For a long time after that guys like Hearns, Leonard, Jones, and Tony just sort of stopped by on their way to 175. It was a euro division partly because the europeans could not compete with American middleweights or light heavyweights.

"Speed vs Speed" and Carl Froch is in the matchup?

Surely a windup, Froch is about as quick handed as a Walrus.

    BS,

Froch keeps his hands down the entire fight, and lunges with quick shots. Those shots kept landing on Jermaine Taylor and knocked him out. Froch dont even really jab that much. Froch is pretty quick, I remember seeing on TV him saying that he could run 100 yards in a little over 11 seconds.

It's nothing to do with the weight. There are loads of European SMW's as that is a pretty normal size for people in Europe, while Latinos often compete in lower weights and African Americans are often too muscled up to fight there without a height disadvantage (unless they're all gangly like Williams and Dirrell). Hopkins skipped the division because there were no interesting fights, same reason Jones skipped cruiserweight. Plus Hopkins has to fight someone skipping at least two divisions above his natural weight with a 3 inch reach and height disadvantage before he fights them.

Nah, your argument is highly... well, unscientific.

Science has shown that the reason why American's dominate middle and long distance running is that they have longer legs and comparatively lighter body mass than most other peoples.

In other words, Africans and African Americans are not homogenous and you cannot make sweeping statements like that just because you saw Tyson. Williams and Tyson are as different as Stieglitz and Abrahm are. And so on..

Dawson is being horrendously overrated at this moment in time - but in many ways Froch is as well.

This thread is garbage town. Dawson schools Froch easy at 168 and 175. Taylor would have beaten him if he had the sense to clinch. And Dawson is WAY ****ing better than Taylor. Froch is nothing special and he will get UD'd time and time again by more skilled fighters. He's pretty much a SMW Clinton Woods with a massive ego.

Taylor and Dawson are like clones.

Glen Johnson beat Dawson. So, he best be careful and not depend on the judges to bail him out this time.

Its going to be interesting to see how this pans out. I think Kessler will have way to much for anyone else and he should win the tourney. But if Froch wins he would be the type of fighter who could upset Dawson, especially if Dawson comes back down to 68.

Froch has slow hands, thats the entire reason he holds his hand low because he otherwise would not be able to land the jab or lead hook with any frequency if he threw it from a traditional stance. Speed and Froch don't belong in the same sentence. He has some great attributes but hand speed isn't one of them, nor is quick body movement.

He doesn't need to be quick with his style and chin. When Pascal won, i took notice and wrote down, hes the real deal.
