I saw that on Secondsout too, Ish. I remember the same was said before the Wlad deal was signed. I think we're gonna see some very shrewd Booth tactics for this one.
Although it's not a popular opinion, Vitali is still the best HW for my money at the moment. A win against Vitali and, IMO, Haye destroys Wlad. I'd love to see the general board afterwards.
Problem is that the low left hand makes it easy for fighters to misjudge the distance they've got on Vitali. They walk in and that jab comes up and it's too late. Move to your left and the right hand is waiting to shell you. It's a tough ask, but I'm sure they've got their plans.
Haye was on the back foot against Monte Barret let alone Vitali Klitshko. I see it as obvious Haye is gonna box and move in this fight. He is hardly gonna stand and trade or he will be KO'd quicker than Herbie Hide. But I dont see that happening as Haye is alot smarter than Herbie Hide who at the time of that fight wioth Vitali in 1999 didnt realise what he was up against until that right hand rendered him unable to get up off the canvas even though he vainly tried to do so with his arms outstrecthed. This is a good time to fight Vitali though who is getting older and slower and was blowing hard against Gomez in his last fight. Haye has got the power to hurt Vitali though - but with his chin is alot tougher than Wlads. Son its a very tough ask for Haye to pull this off. Fascinating fight.
I would hope Haye is planning to hit and move against Vitali. If he stands his ground it could be a short fight.
Haye is inactive though - if he fights Vitali in September he would be coming into the fight with just 3 fights in the last 2 years. Of course you could say Vitali has been even more inactive. But he has the greater experience. Haye needs a few more fights under his belt. And I dont think he will win this fight at this time.
At some point he is going to have to engage Vitali and when that happens it will be all she wrote for My Haye
As an example off of the top of my head, he's like Kessler (before the Palle problems) in that regard- taking long breaks between fights. It's not a majorly new thing for Haye. I think you also have to say that his latest sabbatical has been attributed to contract wrangles with the Klits and an unfortunately-timed injury as well, though. He needs to fight soon, though- I'll agree with you on that:good.
Haye's been a counterpuncher for a while now, he's not a high volume guy. I expect that to be the same against Vitali. Haye is hoping that he'll have quicker hands and be able to get in those counters, then be away before Vitali can get set for anything heavier. Kind of the Spinks-Holmes plan, which I think is probably the best one to go for. Doesn't necessarily mean he'll be able to pull it off, of course... And I definitely agree that all this time out of the ring is something that I'd have preferred to have been addressed first. I don't think Haye has fought any of the heavyweights he needed to to be completely ready to fight either Klitschko. This is a real 'shot in the dark' attempt, so kudos for bravery there but it could end pretty brutally if he's not careful.
Yeah and we dont know how the inactivity has effected Kelseer because he is not fought yet. We will find out when this Super Middleweight tournament kicks off soon.....good to see Kelseer back though he is a good fighter and I would take him to beat Calzaghe if they fought at this stage of their careers as Calzaghe was on beginning to slide while Kelseer was still getting better when they fought.
Haye needs to request the biggest ring possible. Getting caught on the ropes will be bad. But Vitali has dropped off in his last few fights.
