I expect that to be the popular answer. It's just not the correct one.

Its the 46-0 that fooled you, isn't it?

I do think Calzaghe edges it, best of your era does count for something. Although it must be said Casamayor fought in a good era, he lost at some crucial times in terms of legacy turnpoints.

I admire both men a lot, but i think Calzaghe edges it.

I doubt it's the 46-0, it's probably the fact that Calzaghe's much better.

    Joel Casamayor
    36-4-1
Got his @$$ knocked out by Marquez in his last fight (who, granted, is a very tough fighter), barely got through his fight with Katsidis after he got his @$$ knocked through the ropes on that one, has four losses and has only won titles in two different weight classes (Super Featherweight most of his career, and Lightweight for the latter part). His noteable wins include Diego Corralles (twice), Nate Campbell and Michael Katsidis, with noteable losses to JMM, Coralles and Jose Luis Castillo.

    Joe Calzaghe
    46-0-0
Beat future hall of famers Roy Jones, Jr and Bernard Hopkins in his last two outings (Jones was a little over the hill, but Hopkins was still EXTREMELY competitive in that fight) via unanimous decision and split decision, respectively (winning the Ring Magazine Light Heavyweight title). Beat the undefeated, undisputed super middleweight champ of the world, Mikkel Kessler in his previous fight via convincing UD. Noteable wins include Jones, Hopkins, Kessler and Jeff Lacy with no losses.

You say to not look at their resumes, but, um, that's kind of important...what do you want us to look at? I've seen both on television several times, and I can't say that I've been nearly as impressed with Casamayor. He doesn't seem to have the confidence and ring generalship that Calzaghe has, nor the determination. When Casamayor's back is against the ropes (figuratively), he fights with a lower sense of confidence. When Calzaghe is in the same situation, he always rises to the occassion and seems to fight with even more confidence.

To me, this is a no-brainer. You'll have to convince me that Casamayor is the great P4P force that you think he is, especially since he has only fought in two weight classes (like Calzaghe) his entire career and has shown weakness in both. :think

 that's an understatement if i've ever seen one.

Calaghe is better P4P though Casa is a great fighter.

Considering I have watched every single Calzaghe fight I suggest you check my vote for clarity.

Mine is the correct answer not the popular answer. The so-called "popular" answer is actually merely an "ESB" answer. A poll of boxers and athletes would get you Joel 90% of the time without a doubt. The "demographics" of the ESB posting population always produces skewed results and laughable leanings.

All one needs to do is watch Casamayor on tape (if you weren't around for his fights) and compare to JC. There is no doubt about who is the superior fighter and talent. It is who you fight and when that is meaningful (not bogus records, careful matchmaking, back pocket refs, and predisposed judges, etc., etc.).

P4P is all resume, that's why Pac is #1 currently and Darchinyan could have a position despite someone like Guzman is better skilled.

On a pure technical level Casamayor is the better fighter, but if you put all performances together and you take a look how both fighters performed vs. very different opposition, Calzaghe comes out on top. So technical ability and natural talent combined, I'd say Joe.

Stupid post. You're asking us to say who is the better fighter but ignore records and accomplishments. So what do we base this decision on? And how to define P4P with no reference to accomplishments?

The real name of the thread should be: "I like Joel better than Joe but I can't make a rational case as to why he's better, so I'll put up a bogus poll and argue nonsensically with everyone who picks Joe, and I'll use terrible logic like claiming that "real" boxers and fans know the "truth" and claim that ESB is filled with Calzaghe fanboys who's arguments, however well articulated, are instantly invalidated because they don't support my totally subjective opinion."

It's a longer title, but it's more accurate.
