When I say made it, I mean that they became world champion and well known. So which are some boxers that started out late that you know?
Nate's the man who came to mind here, didn't he not start boxing until he was 25 or something like that?
24 to be exact, with four amateur fights. Although Tony Thompson will never be a champion, I admire a guy who takes up boxing at 27, without even having been a competitive athlete in another sport before, and give the HW champ of the world a good fight for a few rounds. Thompson probably landed more punches on Wlad than anyone before, including the guys who beat him.
I might come across like i'm trying to be a smart ass here but i'm not. Yoko Gushiken i think started his career quite late, if anyone can be arsed looking him up on youtube, one of the best fighters i've ever seen. So shocked when i looked him up.
He was i believe 28 when he started as a pro, but he was already a pretty high-level amateur as a kid. Actually the first ever Tarver-Roy Jones fight was when they were both 13 or 14-year old amateurs (Jones won).
