Well if the belt isn't on the line you really have no reason to consider him the champ at all. I mean I don't consider Miguel the champ at 147 right now just a title holder so if the belt isn't on the line that means pac isn't even a title holder.
correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the Welter Weight limit state that you can weigh no less than 140lbs and no more than 147?
Nah, Cotto isnt a real champ at 147 anyway. Mosley is the champ as far as im concerned. Though I consider him a real champ at 140 and 126 when others seem not to... Still that doesnt take away from Pacs win, good fight are good fight regardless of ABC titles. Cotto is a legendary scalp for anybody let alone a former flyweight champ!! Manny really does have a Greblike resume.
If they came in at 145 because they were in good shape but COULD have come in at 147 id still consider him the champ. But since its a contracted 145 catch weight fight...NO, NO, NO. If you want his belt, let him come in at his weight!
Cotto weighed 146 last time. He is forced to cut one pound, and weigh 145. I think it should be for the WW title (140-147), but I honestly don't see why Team pac bothered with this. Hell, if Pac would have fought Cotto at WW (meaning you could weigh in at 147) cotto may have came in at 145 anyways...So then there'd be no excuses. Now, there will be excuses, and they will have a reason to discredit Pac. If he wins the title everybody will argue he doesn't deserve it. So, I'll give him full credit, and say he deserves the belt, but mad they bothered making it a catchweight of only -2 pds...
Ok then say the catch weight is 145lb and the regular Cotto weight is 146 which makes the difference of 1 lb. Assume then that Cotto have a bad day eating stinky burrito and spend like 2 lb in the restroom before the fight. Is he then breaking the agreement if he go to the weight in at 144 lb? Should he be stripped from the title because he vomited for 3 hours and did not reach the 145lb in the contract?
