46-0 cements Calzaghes legend in boxing history.

But what was his career really worth?

Worth a hell of a lot!

We wont have another British fighter like him for a LONG while, tremendous talent with an excellent record. Definately an ATG.

    Waste of space.
Good fighter, maybe even great but we'll never know because.....Although his gobshite father thought very highly of him Joe obviously never thought the same way otherwise he'd have put himself into the mix in the states a lot sooner than he did or stopped draining himself to fight bums and moved up to L/H sooner than he did.

    Ugly get !

He cleared out the super middleweights and went on to face B-Hop. Worth a lot very good fighter.

I heard accustions of him just being mainly a cardiff ice rink champion though - that his bulk of his career was wasted fighting bums down the arena a few streets from his house........

It took him a while to step up yes but when he did he proved he was a worthy of world class

This is a dodgy one to answer: JC is an all time British great but not an all time great on the world stage, IMO. That said, you can only beat who is put infront of you and being boss at SM and beating the king of LHW, B-Hop, in a close fight that B-Hop tried to spoil, is not a bad resume. That also said, an '0' is very much a sexy thing in boxing nowadays- it doesn't mean everything and people seem to forget this when discussing unbeaten fighters. Like I said- you can only beat who is infront of you but you need to scrutinise the list of people he has beaten.

Eubank- was he over the hill?
Lacy- what's he done since the loss to JC and was he all hype anyway?
Kessler- a fantastic fighter, and certainly not a hypejob, but would you consider him an ATG? In the eyes of judging whether JC is an ATG we shall see what Kessler does in the SM tourney.
B-Hop- a close but good win in my eyes. The bloke just schooled Pavlik for Christ's sake!

LHL. Not wanting to hate on the guy but.....

Beating Kessler, showed he is a good fighter who's best assett is being able to adapt midway through a fight. But Kessler hasn't done nothing since and until he does this doesn't prove much. He was hardly spectacular before Calzaghe defeat either.

Beting Lacy was superb but on the face of it what did this prove ? Lacy had had 24 fights, which in my eyes means he was Green as f*ck. There was more emphasis going onto his ridiculous 6 pack pre fight than his 'left hook'. Likewise with Kessler he has done nothing since and very little before. To me it doesn't prove much

Beating Hopkins, on paper it's a good win but in reality beating a 43 yr old man marginly, when a large proportion of fans think he lost isn't really a great win. People will say that he went on to beat Pavlik which is all well and good until you think that Pavlik is a Middleweight stepping up for the first time against a man who had fought the majority of his latest fights at Light/Heavy and Pavlik had some kind of Flu too did he not ? Not a 'Great' win in my eyes.

Ahh and finally.............. Beating Jones. His worst win in his career in my opinion. Beating a man who is years and years past his prime means nothing. People will talk about the ages of both fighters but that means nothing to me. When Calzaghe made his pro debut, Jones was already the Middleweight champion of the world (IBF I believe) so its ridiclous to say that they were both around the same age and prime wise a little past it.

Actually never really stepped up to the plate did he ??????????????

Dan once again that fountain of **** that comes from your mouth is overflowing.

Kessler has had what, 2 fights since Calzaghe ? Both mandatories ? Now he's taking part in the most difficult tournament possible facing the best available comeptition and most people have him down as the favourite.

    "very little before"
Kessler was a unified wbc/wba champ and he was undefeated. On this basis what does a fighter have to do to have "done much" in your eyes ?

Hopkins not a good win ? This is most people P4P number THREE behind Pac and Marquez how is that not a good win ? Pavlik was a massive favourite stepping up, undefeated and hardly anyone on this forum gave hopkins a chance then Hopkins puts on a boxing clinic and shuts him out which shows that Hops has PLENTY left. And there's been god knows how many polls on this site on the matter of who won Calzahge or Hopkins...and Joe comes out on top every single time, in fact you only have to have eyes to see that Joe won the fight.

Flu...LOL dont make me laugh. How about we bring up Calzaghe bad hands he has to fight with every single fight making him unable to sit down on his punches ?

Again with Jeff Lacy it was a unification and on this board he was the overwhelming favourite.

I'd really like to know what someone has to do to "step up" in your eyes. Maybe become a 10 divison 100-0 champion ?

    Amazing.:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

The truth, as ever, is somewhere between the two extremes. I would not go so far as to call him a legend but he is certainly not a fraud either.
