Is Joe Calzaghe a legend or fraud?

  1. If he was American, he wouldn't have got away with 10 years of fighting bums

Most long reigning champs fight dodgy oponents, Joe also fought lots of very good fighters that should not be ignored.

Who exactly has kessler beat that we can talk of ?? Andrade? Beyer? Andrade was a good win but thats it really. Mundine is **** and always has been. he won the tile from Manny Siaca..... Who ? He's had 2 fights in 2 years. if he wins the tourny then goes on to do well afterwards then it will prove a very good win for Calzaghe but until he does so he hasn't really achieved anything post Calzaghe. Could you ever imagine Calzaghe stepping up to this kind or tourny ? I can guarantee you now he wouldn't !!!

What has Lacy done since ? Nothing, he struggled against Manfredo and got beat comfortably by Taylor. Can't say it was because of Joe either coz apart from beating a past it Reid he did nothing prior to Joe.

Joe could have been an ATG but for one reason or another HE ISN'T. That reason is that he never fought the elite out there at the right time.

Look at Hatton. He wanted Mayweather so he publicly ridiculed him at evry opportunity. Yes he paid for it but if Calzaghe would have wanted them fights he could have got them. Ignore all that bull**** about Hopkins/Jones not wanting it. Why would they travel to the UK for a pittance to fight someone who was relatively unknown outside of these shore until he beat Lacy ?? Hopkins and Jones stepped up to bigger challenges throughout there careers and have everyones respect even though they sometimes got beat. Calzaghe will not be remembered with the likes of Jones or a Hopkins !

I'm sorry he is not just a good quality super-middleweight champion, he is/was the greatest super-middleweight of all time.

  6. It depends what you mean by "Very" good

because the only "Very good" fighters/champions he fought were

    Eubank-old/shot
    Kessler
    Hopkins-old s/d
    RJJ-shot

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

then you have decent belt holders

    Lacy
    Reid
    Brewer
    Woodhall

 I have joked about Calzaghe before, but you cannot deny that at this period in time he is the best fighter ever at super-middleweight, mainly down to the division not being set up that long and fighters bypassing the division. But that doesn't deny Calzaghe's right as the best ever in the division atm.

  11. explain :huh

because for the majority of Joe's SMW career Sven was ranked no 1... and Joe mainly fed on Svens left overs.

and he defended his Unifeid status 5 times

Ottke has many dubious victories to say the least (Reid, Brewer, Mitchell etc.), whereas, Calzaghe with the exception of the Reid fight has pretty much clearly won every fight at super-middleweight, including victories over Brewer and Mitchell.

You do not find the Mitchell or Kessler fights entertaining?

I thought better of this forum than to rewrite lazy GF myths as though they were fact. The guy fought a grand total of two world title fights at the Cardiff Ice Rink and fought ten world champions. He also fought more bouts outside of his home country than Jones jnr, Hopkins, Tarver and Chad Dawson combined have to date.
