You don't address why Hopkins held and hugged - which is because Calzaghe's "SLAPS!!!!!!" and hand speed were too much. Calzaghe perhaps deserved a points deduction, but Hopkins holding was even more inhibitive and should have been punished. And any version of Pavlik would have been schooled by Bhop.

The Jones fight was, IMO, pointless, and was signed by Calzaghe for the money alone. I think if he wanted to get Jones out of there he could have


As for the comment on a prime Jones fighting Calzaghe, do you really thing Jones would have been interested in fighting Calzaghe? Do you think he would have made an offer? bearing in mind he was an unbeaten European fighter, not much of a draw and he could have made the same money fighting, I dunno, Rick Frazier?

Calzaghe was a nobody for a majority of his career...he really only had 3 years at the TOp (POST LACY)

Oh, I forgot Jones fought a cop or something didn't he? The right contract, and if Calzaghe was willing to get on a plane for a fighter with a pulse - the fight could have happened.

Less risk for Jones than Calzaghe, that much is certain. Calzaghe had no chance, only risk for Jones really was that the fight wouldn't sell, or would be a boring fight due to Calzaghe's horrible style (kind of like many Calzaghe fights back then).

Calzaghe would send both Pavlik and Froch on stretchers after landing over 1000 punches. If you have no defense going in against someone like Calzaghe you will leave the ring the same way Lacy did.

Not true - Jones wouldn't have fought him. Not through fear, but through risk/reward. KO a cop - millions of dollars. fight an undefeated champion for same money.

It's utterly irrelevant to my point that Calzaghe probably wouldnt have taken the risk. Jones was totally uninterested in fighting live fighters during his peak. You've basically said "He'd have beat him anyway", which whilst it's very conceivable, that's not what creates a resume. Collins, Benn, Eubank and Calzaghe never got near Jones at his prime. Neither did Mike McCallum for that matter, til he was shot. Jones didnt take risk without reward.

The fact many many people enjoyed Calzaghe's fights and his style basically means you're just showing yourself up.

 

Toney, Hopkins all live fighters who Jones was happy to fight.

 

I'm a boxing fan - I can criticise every single fighter if I see fit.
