You won't believe this but my dad got out of the pub game after you know what I'm gonna say. Someone but a bullet through the window. He took a pub down on the docks in the mid 80's. There was a recession at the time but plans to develop the dockland area. He got in about 6 years too early and even though he had a clientele it dried up after the shooting. The building is in a prime spot now but no longer a pub. Another Liverpool boxer took it on after my dad but I don't think he did too well either.

Unbelievable Al. These guys were lightning rods for trouble years after they got out of the ring. I don't know why some guys don't get it, that no matter how small a good pro boxer is, it's a different kind of tough that they are. Few streetfighters can hang with a good pro and it almost doesn't matter about age and size differences. I mean how many tough pro footballers have to get taken apart in the lower rungs of the game for everyone to get it?

No, I met his son once by accident. By the way T and Al, I'm half watchin' Obama's conference. He's talkin' health care. Ours is really a mess over here. A lot of people have none, and a lot of people that have it, find it's expensive and inadequate. What's it like in England, or Spain? Are you guys happy with the health insurance and care you have?

    Top thread guys.

I remember reading a book about Lance Armstrong, the 7 time Tour De France winner. In it a top cycling trainer commented that unless cyclists had endured a couple of major set-backs in their lives (eg lost a parent early, major illness/injury challenges etc) they just would not make the top in such a tough sport. For him, in cycling, it was a pre-requisite, and perhaps boxing's the same.

Well we have NHS over here, National Health Service, as in everyone gets seen to for free. But of course you can go private and pay for better health care, more eficient that is.

What's going on with the health care situation then over there? Is he wanting to give everyone health care?

He's proposing a parallel government health care plan, it won't be as good but there are something like 45 million people that have no health insurance at all and there are two kinds for those that do, one more expensive and freer in that you get to choose your own doctor.

Later Teeto, Nice talking to you as always...

I think this is true for a lot of things, and I'm wondering if it's not an individual effort thing, that may require some major tribulations sometime in your life for you to be able to compete on a level with others that probably have. One thing that's true for most fighters I think is that they've come up poor. Especially for that game, you probably have to need to make money relatively fast to want to do it for a living. I know that's not always the case, and I think their are some boxers that if they wouldn't have gone into the ring it would have been a sin, so much talent they have. But for the great majority of them it's a grueling game that requires everything they have.
