sort of but at a minor level CAL>Froch LACY>Dirrell (at the time better and more feared then Dirrell). but i favor froch to win.
What has Froch supposedly not being as good as Calzaghe got to do with my comparison which only related to the hype?
I don't know Dirrell, but I just heard an interview with Jack Loew and he likes the kids skills. Didn't make any prediction for this fight that I remember though.
At least when Lacy fought Calzaghe he defeated a shot former world champ in Reid and a few other former paper champions bringing a IBF title but Dirrell has no body above D level on his resume.
The one point Loew made was he thought the Andre's hadn't really done enough to be in the tourney. But wasn't that Saurland's motivation?
I think Dirrell and Ward are great prospects but America would probably be better served if A.Green was representing them in the tournament. Dirrell and Ward will just get shocked by the huge difference in the level and probably both lost their first fights.
why because Froch is white and european and Dirrell is black and american ?, yeah nice analysis, you nailed it
Honestly, I hate posts like this... First of all, I was actually around ESB when Calzaghe - Lacy was in its "hype" stage, and trust me, it was a HELL OF ALOT MORE than just americans picking Lacy to win. The predictions were ridiculously one sided in Jeff's favor...regardless of country of origin. And believe it or not, but there were quite a few "americans" picking Calzaghe as well...myself included (but in all fairness, I had been a huge Calzaghe fan since he beat Eubank). I really cant stand the xenophobia on this site sometimes. Its always about nationality...no matter what the reasons...or no matter if the comparisons even make sense. Lets take a quick look at Dirrell... He fights NOTHING like Pascal or Lacy, so the similarities end at his skin color and go no further. He is lightning fast (unlike Lacy), has great footspeed and very solid footwork (unlike Pascal...who I think was much more suited for 175 than his body ever was for SMW...he is gonna be a FORCE at LHW), hits HARD...but tends to fight down to his competition, be it because of stamina issues, or just boredom after outclassing his opponents so badly to date that he just loses focus. Andre has a great jab and works off of it very well (unlike both Pascal and Lacy). He also is a quite accomplished amatuer with very solid fundamentals (unlike Lacy, who has the amatuer pedigree, but lacks fundamentals, both defensively and offensively). He is more like a younger, faster version of Jermain Taylor than he ever will be a Lacy or Pascal. And lets not forget, Taylor was SCHOOLING Froch before his stamina failed him. Now will that happen to Dirrell in October? It could, as Froch can apply pressure very well and is strong enough to tire fighters with good stamina...and as mentioned, Dirrell has had issues with fighting a full fight...so I wouldnt be surprised. Just as it wouldnt surprise me if the much more fundamentally sound, more athletic (and much faster handed) fighter in Dirrell won a WIDE UD. I am picking Froch by TKO as of right now (because of the stamina issues and the fact that I dont think Dirrell has ever faced a puncher like Froch)...but I fully expect Carl to be CLEARLY down on the cards. This has nothing to do with nationality or hype...but because I actually know about the sport. Again, I hate the xenophobic side of ESB...makes my posting on here too few and far between for my liking. Wish people could just talk boxing...I mean, wouldnt that be crazy??? :yep
No chance it ends up like Calzaghe/Lacy. Calzaghe is a legend and won every round in that fight. Froch isn't Calzaghe and he won't win every round. Dirrell might be the next Lacy, but he doesn't fight like Lacy so who knows. Anyway I seriously doubt this will be Calzaghe/Lacy all over again. This fight will be much closer.
A well thought post and I just want to say I did not intend to come a cross as Xenophobic or anti American. Direll and Ward for that matter are two great prospects but when looking at Dirrell I see a raw talent who is looking good against cans and journey man and I just dont see how people think he will be able to perform like that against a fighter who is many levels above anyone he has fought previously. Like I said before Pascal was fast and skillfull altough granted has a slighlty different style to Dirrell but Froch has the jab/reach and experrince to contain Dirrell and even control mthe fight and Dirrell has been badley stunned by lesser fighters. Dirrell will be shocked by the difference in the level and the power Froch has.
Thank you and no worries...but Im sure you can agree (from both sides of the pond), too often discussions about boxing degenerate into discussions about race, nationality, etc...and too few of times does it turn into actual conversations about the sport. It just wears on me sometimes, as I even see the best of posters on here stepping down to that level. I should apologize for categorizing your post with the others, as it was geared toward American posters (tho there are plenty hyping Dirrell outside of the US), but was nowhere near some of the other crap that I read on here in that right. Yours was not bad, just struck a nerve. But again, as for Dirrell - Froch. Like I said, I think Froch will stop him, but I honestly dont believe he can outbox him. Froch struggled mightily with Jermain Taylor's handspeed, movement and jab. If Taylor never gasses, he wins big. In Dirrell, he will be facing a fighter with faster hands, quicker movement and honestly very good footwork (sometimes too good for his own good, like his "fight" with Curtis Stevens...god I was ****ing pissed at that ****...but regardless, his movement was spectacular that night...chickenshitted, but spectacular). I dont think he can win on the cards against Andre. But, Im also not sure Dirrell can outlast The Cobra tho, as his power and strength are just poison for fighters with stamina issues. Something Dirrell has shown in the past.
Horrible comparison. Lacy was the favorite going into the fight. Froch is the favorite here. Lacy was the crude slugger and Calzaghe the slick boxer. Here, Froch is the crude slugger and Dirrell the slick boxer. So if you really want to compare this to Lacy vs Calzaghe... Dirrell = Calzage, Froch = Lacy
