That's what *******s wont admit to, is that the only reason there is a catchweight is to attempt to drain Cotto.

And yes if Mayweather (who is weighing less than Pac right now) asked for a Catch weight.

There would be a huge **** storm.

145lbs is no problem for Cotto and he would be close to his best. He has three months to try to come in a pound less than his previous fight. Even Margarito & Williams, who are much taller have come in at 145lbs. The catch weight of only 2lbs below 147 is completely pointless though.

^ I dunno about 145 being "completely pointless" as Roach said publicly in an interview that he wanted to get the weight as low as possible, and even threw out 143

so Roach is obviously trying to get the lower weight for a reason.

Roach failed to get the weight he wanted. 145 is pointless because Pac won't get a belt if he wins and Cotto is not compromised enough for Pac to have an advantage.

    1lb is a lot.

Im not saying it will happen, but there's no other reason but to drain Cotto by having this fight at 145.

****. All the while I thought boxers are world-class athletes and could handle a few pounds of extra or shaved weights. from what I read it appears that Cotto is a sickly and frail man not even worthy to box.

Roach thinks he can weaken cotto at 143, cotto knows this thats why he pushed for 145, knowing he wont be drained.

There isn't a person on the forum who can claim to know exactly how each pound off will effect Cotto. This uncertainty is what it is all about. For all we know he could have a slightly less than stellar camp weight wise and each pound lower than 147 could dig deep. At the same time he might have a great camp and find that he could have gone to 144.

He was practically a skeleton at 140, and has now grown into 147 (and looks pretty pale at weigh ins), each pound below that takes him closer to a discomfort zone and no one here can claim to know exactly at which point severe effects could begin. He himself might not know for sure, as there are anomalies in every camp and no single camp is the same.

Personally i would hazard a guess to say 145 would be comfortable, but any lower than that could begin to test his limits, and would certainly have a taint on a Pacquiao win. When you are talking about individual pounds at the end of his comfort zone/limit it could certainly have an effect.

In my opinion avoiding fighting at 147 isn't worth the taint on the victory for Pacquiao, Roach and his team should have shown more confidence. This is the win that could crush the rampant speculation on the Oscar (zombie, drained terribly etc) and Hatton wins(shot punch resistance etc).
