Does it bother you that pacquiao wasted so much time negotiating something so meaningless. Lets assume that you are correct and those 2 pounds mean nothing. What do you think it says about pacman that he would let something like that get in the way of a fight like this?

PAc was negotiating 4 pounds not 2 ..
2 pounds is the final agreement after Mosley gave the offer going down to 140lb

The fact that the fight is not happening at 147 says that he would have let those 2 pounds get in the way.

pac is not a welter. he did not even need the full 140 for his hatton fight at jr. welter. it's just right that pac should ask for a weight concession because he is the draw. and 145 is not the middlepoint between 140 and 147 so pac is actually making a bigger concession weight-wise than cotto.

It bothers me that they asked for him to lose 2 pounds, I dont think itll make a difference but it looks sneaky, as if he is trying to secure an unfair advantage somehow..

But according to tons of posters on here those 2 pounds don't make a difference. Doesn't it seem stupid to ask for a concession on something that will make no difference on the outcome of the fight? Why not ask for certain gloves or a bigger ring or something.

In your argument you indrectly acknowledge that the 2 pounds make a difference.

It says he has respect for himself. Agreeing to all of Cotto's terms and giving him all the advantages when you are the P4P number 1 is disrespecting yourself.

As it is Cotto has a 5 pound advantage. If Cotto wins he gains a huge amount: legacy, P4P Number 1 contender, Massive paydays, a HUGE HUGE fight against Mayweather and rematch with Mosely. Cotto is being given a MASSIVE chance here by Pacquaio.

What? your post doesn't make sense? Cotto is the one with the advantage of 5 pounds?

Pac is a Jr WW at 140.

Pac is 5 pounds away from his best weight (140). Cotto is 2 pounds away from his. How is that fair?

I find it very funny how people ignore the reasons as to why one fighters or the other is trying to lose/gain weight and focus only "two lbs is not much" argument. First off all, it's much easier for Pac to "gain" weight than it is for Cotto to actually lose it. Miguel is comfortable at 147, that does not mean he makes the weight easy. Burning off two more pounds is a lot harder than pac not losing 5pounds. So breaking it down to meeting "half way" is not really the logical way to break it down. Now Pac may not be a welterweight, but Cotto is, and unlike Pac, he doesn't have the ability to fight in different weight classes, that's Pac's strenght, so him trying to take an advantage on Cotto by trying to make him dehydrate himself even though he has fought at welterweight effectively is a bit sneaky. But it doesn't matter because I do think 145 lbs is a fair weight, it's the extra two pounds that made me think Pac was trying to get an unfair advantage.

Pac is at the edge of how much weight he can gain. Manny's greatest asset and the main reasons he beat DLH and Hatton is because of his speed.

Gaining 5 pounds will slow him down slightly, PAc is at his best at 140. He is super fast and his punches have a lot of snap.

Cotto will be fine at 145. 2 pounds is not going to make much difference as he can re-hydrate up to 155/60 anyway. It's Manny who is going to feel the effect of being 5 pounds above his best weight.

You have it all wrong friend, Pacquiao has already fought at this weight and was just as fast. He won't be gaining weight, he will just not have to lose so much, Cotto on the other hand is at the risk of not being able to rehydrate back to his best fighting weight while Pacquiao will be at his comfortable training weight.

Judging by your post this thread is not directed at you. You are acknowledging that the 2 pounds make a difference. The 2 pounds would give Cotto more of an advantage. I am posing the question to people that don't think that the 2 pounds make a difference.
