Thats terrible. £450K. How much profit did Warren make from the whole event, tickets, paying fighters, paying Sky etc?
The idea of buying a PPV to me is just an outdated concept. It took me about 5 minutes to find a place to go fishing on Saturday night, and the water was really clear.
I don't blame Frank Warren for this one, I think putting Amir on PPV was the only way he could keep Khan in his stable. I think Khan was short sighted he moved in to PPV to soon do you remember the hype Khan was getting with the British public before the Prescott fight after he lost his name and hype was deflated he should have gone back to ITV or regular Sky then in fact he should never have gone enough in the first place. I can guarentee you that if he had all those fights that he has done on PPV where on ITV instead his next fights would have done double the PPV buys. He needs to get off PPV and go onto regular Sky and make a name for himself again and then go back onto it once their is a fair amount of hype around his name. To me it feels like he is moving along far to fast and I am beginning to think his career might well be over within 4/5 fights.
spot on :good khan was well ahead of people like andy murray and others in terms of recognition, fame , endorsements and sponsership but with one match on terestrial i bet murray makes more money now and gets more endorsements he's gone of the radar since going on PPV, his situation sort of mirrors and is an indictment of whats happened to boxing
Has someone posted this in the General? I'd love to see the Klit huggers defend the fact that the only money Haye would have got is Sky money. :yep
You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. As decent of an overall card that this was, hardcore fans would have realised Sky would do a sloppy job of showing the overall card. Casual fans look at the main event, that is the be all and end all and nobody knows Kotelnik. Plus Khan's product was seriously damaged, I'd suggest terminally when he was KO'd by Prescott in a minute.
I watched the khan fight on jestin.tv and guess what the viewers was for that? 32k, if i remember correctly. The internet, just like it did to music, is killing sales. Thats life.
Lol... oh dear. 30,000 and a half fall arena. Promoter indeed. Change of blueprint may be in order. Small-Hall was a step in the right direction.
After years of shoving the 'unbeateble' theory down buyers throats its now biting them in the ass, There was a time when been an unbeaten world class fighter was an absolute rarity. like MMA these days.
You're right - if they put tennis on PPV, i'd love to see what viewing fugures they would get. Hah! I never appreciated how much PPV kills boxing until I read this thread. :fire Frank Warren should get all his fighters on ITV - with the rationale being that during the first 3 years of their professional career it will give them sufficient coverage and critical mass to then go onto PPV. 30k buys. What a joke. :verysad
