What could of happened between that period (1941 and 1946), that could of limited title defences for Red?:think

(For you Yanks; World War II was actually 1939 to 45, not 41 to 45, same as the Great War was 1914 to 18, not 17-18!)

Much like the Marvelous one, Marvin Hagler, the Americans, were fine finishers then, but slow starters! ;)

In 1993 I sat in a meeting room with two boxers with an absolute intense rivalry.

Press and TV were gathered around and the atmosphere quickly became incredibly nasty. Vitriolic and within millimetres of blows being exchanged.

Approximately 20 minutes later I stood in the car park outside the venue as one asked the other what he used to mow his lawn with.

He replied 'staff'. His opponent laughed and said 'you think thats so f***ing clever don't you?'

The reply he received was 'it took 6 months of training to get their teeth that sharp'.

Both boxers, full of hatred for each other, fell about laughing, shook hands - and left.

According to Cyberboxingzone, it was helped along by the mob, the war, and the ever famous WWE tactic of losing non title matchups. I only know what is on CBZ, but i have to say they were more critical of him in their little bio then i have ever seen them be critical of someone.

    Fun fact on Chuvalo:

His "pro debut" was 4 fights in 1 day in a "HW Novice" tournament. 2 months later, he had his first proper pro fight against 30-7 Johnny Arthur who was fresh off going the distance with Willie Pastrano (!!!). How's that for jumping in the deep end? (Chuvalo won an 8rd UD)

Charles Bud Taylor fought a bout where his right arm popped out of it's socket, both times he fended off his opponent with his left, put the wrist of his right arm between his knees and janked the arm back into place, TWICE!

Did you know that Forrest Griffin once had his arm broken in a fight and responded by knocking out his opponent with his other hand?

I suggest you never, ever again imply that Hagler was a slow starter.

    For your own good.

Oscar was actually going to announce a fight against Genaro that night at the Forum and after the brutal liver punch Oscar and Alcazar said they would wait. They ended up fighting years later.
