Was Roy Jones Jr great or just very good and marketed well?

    awesome post:thumbsup i think the last of the prime floyd we saw was n'dou, while the last of prime roy was woods. roy's drop was faster: in two fights his physical gifts eroded. this is pretty much accepted. floyd's decline is less noticible because of his boxing brain, technique and (sorry scar) quality of opposition. if floyd were fighter the hernandez, corrales, and castillos of his early career it would be MUCH more perceived

    Note: N'dou and Woods weren't their respective peaks, but the last fights before they were truly different

    :lol::rofl:patsch

    I am not going to hijack this thread. I would have liked to seen Roy fight Benn and Eubank maybe Calzaghe a lot earlier also. I think Roy would have beaten Dariusz Michalczewski. I just think Roy robbed the fans of some potentially great fights.

    If he's "marketed well" only then you would expect to see another one being marketed the same way. It's his ability in the ring that helped market him the way they did. If ability didn't count then we would have many new Mike Tysons, Muhammad Alis, Roy Jones, Calzaghe... etc all over the place.

    No he didn't rob fans, you talk about Jones so much yet have **** poor knowledge.

    Eubank was called out and PUBLICLY turned it down, Collins was called out instead of Eubank because he BEAT Eubank at the time and turned it down and others.

    This was in a public interview with Roy Jones by Ron Borges, Steve Farhood and someone else all asking questions while Roy was sitting IN THE RING before his fight with Brannon and I posted that video numerous times here to many clueless British fans who thought Roy ducked these guys. Sadly the video doesn't exist on Youtube anymore.

    true, fighters ain't like shitty movies that you could shine up with a good commercial and trailer. they actually have to perform

    undeniably a great fighter. BUT like rico said, i personally think his career (though itself very good) did not do his talent justice.

    PBF is still good not because of his boxing brain but because he is NOT a shot fighter, RJJ looked bad because he dropped about 20 lbs of muscle in his mid 30s to go back down to LHW, he is an old man that shouldn't be fighting anymore, PBF is ONLY 32 he may not be at his peak BUT he is far from shot. If he hangs around too long like Jones he will LOSE.

    3 or 4 fights would have put him into a lot of peoples all time top 20 and even a few top 10

    oh floyd is nowhere near shot agreed. but the dynamo from a junior lightweight/lightweight looks just slightly more beatable. he gets a bad rap on here but judah really changed things for me: he took it to floyd and if he wasn't so stupid could have actually won

    Look at his resume'. Good living and no "eye of the tiger' was his downfall.
    A true all time great.
