For those of you who don't know him, he is an exciting champion kick boxer with a huge punch.Any of you think he can make the transition and go far?
Is he planning on it? He's nearly 30? Zambidis is certainly a gun at kickboxing, but so was The Preacher and he is now 0 wins from 5 at boxing. Zambitis' adversary John Wayne Parr won the Aust middleweight title and went the distance with Bika and Hamden in compiling a 10 wins from 13 record. The difference between kick and straight boxing is greater than many people think.
Thats for sure, you only had to see the Preacher fight last night to see that, IE/ his lack of lateral movement or ability to fight with angles. Also his bolt upright stance with his legs too close together to be able to move properly
He was always pretty good with his hands...but I think its a bit late. I dont see him doing any better then JWP or Dawson..given Dan has been at it for a while Id say he would fall short of what the Rock has achieved so far.
not late, Matt Skelton made it in boxing after mid 30's. zambo too, as long as he keeps speed and power. but seems zambidis doesn't wanna turn into boxing, I heard that he rejected honorable offer to be a representative amateur boxer of National Team in 2004 Athene Olympic.(I'm not sure this is true.) if he really love boxing, he would have tried once already.
he is very short as well, and is a middleweight I think, so I wonder how much of a disadvantage he would be at if he became a boxer due to his lack of height.
i dont think he will do any good, at 72kg he lacks height for boxing. Boxing and kickboxing are 2 different sports..
I think he would need to lose some weight to be succesful at Boxing. He is far to Short to be fighting at Middle weight. If he could cut down and get to Welter he would be a chance.
Zambo trained with the National Team prior to the 2000 games in boxing,he was born in 1981 so there is still time for him if he choses. When he fough the likes of Gurkan Ozkan & even JWP he did have to actually put on weight to fight them. He is bloody short around the 5'4-5'5 mark but he does have a super punch and is very quick, he weighs around the 61-66Kg mark , so he could make a mark in the Welterweight Division then again he is looking to redefine and challenge himself as rumours have been circulating that he has been approached to enter the house and be part of the Contender Asia 2 Muay Thai , so who knows.
He's an interesting prospect that's for sure. I have always wondered whether he fought above his weight because that's where the main challengers were. He's spent a long time striking with all fours & as the point has been made, footwork is a day one process that if ignored, even in the dedicated QR fighters, they remain at a disadvantage, but I think Mick has the speed, toughness & punching power to wear the best welters down, & therein is the problem (Repeated). can he make welter comfortably? because he'll be fighting light-heavies at middy in QR & I think that really would be a bridge too far.
