He's a drug cheat. Shouldn't be allowed to fight.

Maybe this time Toney will land that title shot.

There isn’t better challenger available at the moment than JT.

Talk is cheap, Toney hasn't shown anything worth a title shot for years.

    Brutal, but true.

Neither have some other guys, but two wrongs don't make a right either.

    Stop Wlad???

Toney is an undersized, very skilled defensive artist with little power. That sounds like Chris Byrd to me. This typeof fighter Wlad will would annihilate anytime. A small guy who wants to beat Wlad would have to have blazing speed, a charging, aggressive style and power.

Eddie Chambers? Just one loss to a top ten contender in Povetkin, bounced back from that loss and beat another top ten contender convincingly....what has Toney done to be better than fast Eddie?

Toney already lost to Peter, who was beaten by both Klitschkos. Eddie did what Toney seems to be unable to do, get his weight down and improve where he needed to.

Chambers is in line to challenge Wlad so I doubt that he is option. But if he is available I agree that he deserves shot more than Toney.
Then again he is still young and there is no need to rush him in the title shot. Toney however isn’t going to be in this game forever, so maybe he should get shot at champion first.

BTW. Toney beat Peter more convincingly than Wlad did. Unfortunately bribed senile judges were watching different fight.

Toney and Byrd are defensive fighters.

That is only similarity between their two styles. If you would watch them actually fight you should know that.

Toney beat Petermore convincingly than Wlad???

In the first fight, Toney should have gotten the win, OK. In the second fight, Peter clearly won. Wlad won nine rounds against Peter and landed more and harder shots than Toney. If we take both the senile judges from Toney - Peter 1 and the senile ref of Wlad - Peter out of the equasion, Peter had one legit knockdown and perhaps a point deducted for repeated rabbit punches.

I watched them fight quite a lot and in terms of facing a very tall puncher like Wlad who controls range so well even Teddy Atlas gives him credit for it, they are both unequipped. Both are really small for HW, Toney is even shorter than Byrd. Both live off their defensive abilities, both lack serious power, neither has a charging style to get under a long jab. Toney's bets effort at HW was against a 6'2 Peter in the first fight and an ancient 6'3 Holyfield. There is nothing to suggest he could deal with a 6'6 fighter with the best jab in the division. There is nothing to suggest Toney would beat Chagaev or Thompson at this point.

    - Truth is you do not know how JT would deal with a 6 foot 6 guy. Rumors from sparring session wars in the gym seem to indicate that he does quite well.

    - I see Toney doing better against Vitali than Wlad.At 38 Vitali is slower on his feet and will stand more in front of Toney. Vitali has to be favoured but I see Toney doing better than Gomez and Chagaev who were punch bags.

    - Anyway, there is no real indication that Toney will fight Vitali. First more desrving guys like Arreola and Chambers would have to refuse the fight , which is possible. Then, the Klits will have to want to fight JT which I doubt. HBO needs to push for the fight.

even though i love james toney, and i absolutly despise the klit brothers, there is no way this 40 yr old washed up version of toney could take either one of these guys .yet i guess it would be atleast worth watching, you would think he would have a better showing than ruslan chagaev did.
