Just been on Oddschecker, they were offering odds on Europe v the field for a winner (Europe big favourites). This got me thinking how exactly are they going to determine the winner? Six is an odd number for a straight knockout comp and they're surely not all going to fight each other in a round robin. Anyone know?
I can't believe Europe are so ridiculously short. I don't like Jermain's chances but Dirrell and Ward are extremely talented. They could easily pull a rabbit out of the hat.
They are grouped into 2 sets of 3. The 3 fight each other and gain points per fight. Tope 2 in each group go through to the semi's then final. I think
Sounds sensible. Like TFFP said i don't like Taylor's chances (he could possibly beat Abraham on points depends maybe where the fight's held) but Ward and Dirrell are the x-factor, talented but (particularly in Dirrell's case) unproven.
I expect Taylor to fall short againt AA, both Ward and direll are unknwon quantities and could pose a problem. I dont expect Froch to keep his belt as he is one of the weak links imo. I think Kess is still the pick of the bunch.
This is the kinda thing boxing needs. Tbh lately iv been following mma more than boxing...simply because they consistently put on better fight cards. Really looking forward to these tourney match ups. Kessler will be the clear fav going in.
Kessler isn't the clear favourite going in. Him and Froch are considered equal by the bookies. They have to account for British money on Froch, so I suppose Kessler is a slight favourite.
The American's looked kind of horrible on youtube to me, I was watching looking for basically any excuse to bet against the awful Froch. Sakio Bika would demolish Froch, these yanks though..I am not so sure about.
Haven't seen too much of Ward. Dirrel though....Very talented with quick hands but I didn't like the way Hanshaw was able to pressurise and deck him though. Slight vulnerability there.
Ward and Dirrell are both very slick but froch hasthat one punch KO power that can turn fights, AA was awesome at middle but what will he be like when he aint the stronger man ?? Kessler would be my favourite, followed by taylor the two most rounded fighters in the tourny. Is the format 12 rounders? if its 8, i place taylor as my favourite. Either way,its proper exciting and a cracking idea:good
Really didn't like his performance in the first few rounds of the Hanshaw fight. Hanshaw managed to pressure him into fighting orthodox again and again, which was pretty horrible as his right cross isn't up to much at all and he was having to try and keep Hanshaw off him with purely the jab. A strong rear hand punch is far better against a pressure fighter and it should be worrying that Hanshaw was able to force him onto the back foot and into a stance where he was disadvantaged. If the plodding Froch can get close to him and do the same, could end up nasty for him. Any fighter with a decent right hand and a defence could beat Froch, don't think Dirrell has either though. See him as a talented athlete, not a massively skilled boxer.
It's 12 rounders mate :good And Jeff, Froch-Dirrell and Abraham-Taylor are on October 17th and Kessler-Ward is on November 21st.
