First off - why does making my writing bigger and using this one emoticon ":deal" make you right? It doesn't. Grow up.

Lesser fighters fought close fights with Pea? Ever heard of styles make fights?? Pea is PBF's Kryptonite. PBF could not deal with that jab, no way. Pea had faster hands, better combination punching, better infighting, better all-round boxing skills, better defence. In every way he is Floyd's nightmare. Take your hand off your **** next time you watch Floyd. Then watch Pea. This is unwinnable for Floyd. It's a styles thing.

Yeah, that means they were incapable of throwing a jab, doesn't it? :patsch

BULL****. That's a hugger comment. Floyd did nothing to force Oscar to stop throwing the jab. Oscar just stopped throwing it. Inexplicably. Floyd did nothing different in those middle rounds. Oscar stopped throwing it, and it was a result of this that Floyd came on in the last third of the fight - not a cause.

Take the blinkers off for just a minute, eh?

    I agree with this.

Floyd combines technique & athleticism brilliantly, slipping, blocking, rolling, lateral movement... you cant punish Floyd for having athleticism & using it well with his skills while praising the more stationary Hopkins & Toney (if thats the case, Sweet Pea should be criticised) they all use what God gave them & Floyd has better variety. Simple.

I loved when Whitaker did that to Oscar, he made a very good fighter look like a big clumsey plodder.

And that little dance :patsch  Brilliant.

we've had a ton of pea vs floyd threads and though the how is rarely the same for me, pea always wins. at 135 floyd fought VERY differently and his speed, aggression and combination would bring out the best in pea who would need every trick in his arsenal

i haven't read through the thread and i'm sure this has already been said, but its sweet pea hands down

Pea fought offensive maniacs and shut them out, after watching the chavez fight i don't know how anyone can think he is not the greatest defensive fighter of all time, no one "sat on the toilet" like sweet pea

funny though how commentators used to rip him to shreds and call him boring and now those same people praise him so much, you don't appreciate it till its gone

Agreed... Id pick Whitaker over Mayweather too but it would be a really competitive fight. Floyd is faster, more power & is ultra adaptable, no way Whitaker outclasses Mayweather.... to think that is to overrate Pea, underrate FMJ or likely both.

    :good

I rate these guys over Floyd defensively in no particular order, Ali, Pep, Whitaker, Locche, Benitez, Toney, Roy Jone's Jr.

locche, pep and whitaker to be certain. benitez, while having AMAZING reflexes and timing (spider sense like anticipation) simply got hit to much. same with toney: the shoulder roll he used worked on a lot of guys, like barkley, but jones and others were able to overcome it. not saying he wasn't a master, just not on par with floyd for me. Roy Jones and Ali are tough because at their absolute peaks they were soooo physically gifted that all they needed was reflexes. their defensive skills were based soley on that and were relatively one dimensional
