Seriously? Carter was great all-round.

 

I believe they fought early on in their careers and a young Joe Brown won a decision over a slightly more experienced Jimmy Carter. Neither were in their primes however.

 

Yes seriously, from the footage i've seen Carter is similar to Williams in his approach to his opponents, Brown in a focused mind set, could use them quite fast hands and imo better footwork, to as i say, win it on the outside.

Brown wasn't a very good lightweight champion. He managed to beat a few good fighters but generally he was **** poor compared to someone like Carter, who was often cuffed by the Mob and forced to lose fights, sometimes to make more money in the rematch.

 

Yes i know all about Carter, who clearly fought in the better era, but was beatable by such opposition as well, very much so. Brown's thing was inconsistency, especially in non-title fights, i'd be interested to know how many of such were over the weight limit though, as they wouldn't count here in a technical sense (kidding)

I would favour Brown I seen more of him and think he is often over looked.

And I disagree that Brown was a poor champion. Don't quite see where you come to that conclusion, Manassa. From what I've seen and know of Brown he was a very good fighter. Perhaps not truly an ATG, but a very good fighter nonetheless.

 

Brown was slicker and more mobile, and seemed more willing to "step on the gas" when more was needed.

He was definitely a good fighter, very good; the sort who make a tough title defence. A good champion he was not, just a fair one.

Carter would be physically too strong, durable and hard punching, and not without skill. Brown might slice him a bit with the right hand but wouldn't contain him.

 

I think Carter is the slightly more skilled, but Brown's speed and reach will be an issue to overcome. I really can't see this being anything but a real close fight if we are taking both at their best. I might edge towards Carter just, by a point or so.

 

I don't know too much about either of these fighters. I have seen some footage of them and I probably would go with Jimmy Carter. He seemed more skilled and had better boxing skills than Joe Brown. I might be way off on that, but I would go with Carter.
