I like Frazier more and rate him higher but Tyson is a terrible matchup for him. Frazier is tougher, yes, and if the fight goes past 7 rounds then Frazier would win. But Joe was a slow starter, Tyson had faster hands and better two handed power and would stop Frazier early.

Yes. Not in a prime for prime sense though. But chuck Bob Foster Frazier in with 1997 Tyson and i'd pick Frazier without too much hesitation.

No, never, Frazier is made for Tyson. Frazier liked to take a punch to land a punch. He had an open defense and started slow. Tyson is the better boxer, faster and has the power and precision to do what Foreman did to Frazier.

Even the version that lost to Lewis beats a Prime Frazier

Yes Frazier could beat Tyson either by decision or late round stoppage. At the same time if Tyson catches him early he could stop frazier as well. I give the edge to frazier based on his tremendous heart and indomitable will.

Even when Tyson lost against Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis for that matter, it wasnt because they made it past the first few rounds, survived his onslaught and somehow turned it around. It was because they got to him early, and they presented a challenge immediately. I woudlnt favor any fighter from round 7 onwards against a Tyson who up to that point is well ahead on the cards and extremely confident.

Tucker, Smith, Ruddock all went past 7 rounds with Tyson thier sucess didnt change. Conversly Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis for that matter were all ahead on cards after round 6 of thier respective fights indicating early success.

I can't see Frazier pulling it off and in the unlikely event that he did, it wouldnt be because he outwilled him or outlasted him. It would be because he presented an initial challenge that Tyson never really overcame.

My assesment take on the fight: Tyson TKO4

If Frazier could get thru the opening stanza's he would be VERY dangerous.

Prime Frazier beats prime Tyson. Frazier's peak was in The Fight Of The Century and there was very little man who could beat that fighter. Power, stamina, balance, headmovement, pressure, aggression and no fear. Tyson would create hell in the first rounds, but Frazier calls hell his home and breaks Tyson. Just my prediction:))

    I never understood that Logic.

If Tyson would create hell in the first rounds then what is Frazier going to do differently that would allow him to take over the fight? After all Joe only fought one way.

From what I recall Foreman created hell in the first rounds and subsequently stopped Joe.

When has Tyson started the fight guns blazing taken the first few rounds and then lost the fight?

    Against Holyfield?
Nope. Evander won 3 of the first 5 rounds. Some may argue 4 of the first 5.

    Against Douglas?
Nope. Buster won the first 5 rounds cleanly.

    Against Lewis?
Again the answer is no. Tyson won the first round and lost every other subsequent round.

So if Joe is going to win this fight, he needs to set the pace early, he needs to assert himself from the opening bell otherwise he ends up being another Tyson victim.

    BTW BUDW:

Ruddock, Botha, Biggs, Tucker, P Thomas, Berbick, Tubbs were not afraid of Tyson. It didnt seem to matter.

Yes. Even in a Prime for Prime sense. Tyson had a high energy style in the first 4 or 5 rounds and could possibly stop Frazer within that time. If Frazier makes it past the 4th or 5th (Which is what I think he would), then he wears down Tyson for a late stoppage in the 11th or 12th round.

We have all heard the saying "stlye's makes fights". Going by that, I would say a peak Tyson is the worst possible math-up for a prime Frazier!

Frazier, evee in his prime, often took punches to land his own shots, where-as a peak Tyson was very adept in making his opponents miss & then making them pay!

The defensive advantages Tyson would have would play a huge part! Frazier was known to be a slow starter, where-as Tyson was probably the fastest starter in history!

    Tyson TKO within three!
