IS he fighting Jose Carita Lopez? I thought that Z Gorres was going to take that fight at one point...

I find that its too soon to put him there with someone of Lopez's calibre but then again I also thought it was a mistake to put Pacquiao in there against Barrera so what do I know.

Yup, just read up on that. Its a bit harder for me to keep track of other Filipino fighters due to not seeing them too often or them not being covered at all.

What do you think of Sonsona? I've only seen his fight with Wandee Singwacha so far.

Yes, he's fighting Lopez at Casino Rama in Toronto. Don't think that will be the Bute-Andrade undercard.

I'm a big fan from what little I've seen of him. For him to fight the way he does with his raw tools at his age is very impressive to me. Lopez seems like a really stiff test to me for someone with so little experience, so I wouldn't be shocked if he loses, but even if he does I think he's a great prospect.

I don't think they said he was the next Pacquiao, just that he had big potential. He actually reminds me a bit more of Donaire than Pacquiao, but he does look a lot like Pac from back when Pac was at flyweight. Pac's a freak though. Most guys just don't improve THAT much over the course of their careers, and I think it's silly to expect that he could do the same. If he has a chin, heart, stamina, etc., all of which are unproven at this point, I could easily see him winning belts in 3 weight classes though. He's humongous for a flyweight already.

That they're giving him a title fight 13 fights into his career, in a weight class that he's never fought in before, seems pretty insane to me.

I'd be glad to be proven wrong, but they seem to be rushing the kid...

Seriously? Is he going to be on an undercard of a Steve Molitor fight? I do not know of any other big events to take place at Casino Rama and I find it very odd that they are fighting there. Heck if that is the case, then I might as well drive there from MTL just to see the kid live for myself! :happy

You need to loosen up and give some of these guys a chance. Not too long ago, the same Brian Viloria who you call a top fighter was also labeled as a "bum" and "overrated" before he beat Solis. So who knows if guys like Concepcion, Banal, and Sonsona can do better? I bet you haven't even seen most of their fights and are relying on overhyped testimony from their most ardent fans who just want to label any Filipino prospect the next Pacquiao.

Let their careers play out and we'll judge them later on :good

Well to be fair, you can't really just go up and find the next ___________ (insert MEGA-STAR here) just like that. And obviously, just like in any sport, anyone who looks like a good prospect will be compared (unfairly, usually) to the top of whatever sport they participate in.

Rey Boom Boom Bautista was the second coming of Pacquiao, after he got KTFO by DPDL the Pinoys jumped ship....It was a sad sight to see how they just wrote him off hours after calling him the next great Pinoy.
