***AN VOWS TO TAKE HIS CHANCE http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/july09/july09_fagan_interview.html SEXTON REMATCH FOR ROGAN http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/july09/july09_fagan_interview.html I hope you all enjoy the fights tonight. It should be a barnstormer of a night.
Boxing: Hyland makes weight as he plans to pick ***an's pocket By Thomas Myler Saturday July 25 2009 THERE was high drama at yesterday's weigh-in for tonight's big fight at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, with Edward Hyland forced to make two visits to the scales to get inside the 9st 4lbs limit. Hyland made it at the second attempt several hours later for his all-Dublin IBF International super-featherweight title fight with veteran Oisin ***an. And he forecast: "I like Oisin as a man but when that bell goes, we are rivals so he had better watch out. "A lot is being made of his greater experience, having been in with world champions and top contenders but don't forget, I was brought to the gym from childhood. I've never known anything else but boxing." stake ***an, who weighed 9st 3 1/2 lbs, said: "Victory should bring me into the world's top-12 rankings so there is too much at stake for me to lose. I'm not making any forecasts except to say that my hand will be raised at the end. "The left leg I broke against Amir Khan is fully healed and I'm raring to go. Edward and I are friends outside the ring, but once that bell goes, friendship ends." The scheduled 12-rounder is on a seven-fight card featuring Hyland's two brothers -- Patrick meets Uganda's Abdu Tebazalwa for the vacant IBF International featherweight title, also over 12, and super-bantamweight Paul meets Robert Nelson over eight. The show includes Cork light-middle Gary 'Spike' O'Sullivan, Dublin super-middle Anthony Fitzgerald and Limerick light-heavyweight Jamie Power. Meanwhile, Belfast heavyweight Martin Rogan can avenge his eighth-round stoppage loss to Sam Sexton with a return fight for the Commonwealth title on October 9 at the Odyssey in Belfast. - Thomas Myler
Well who is all going to the fights later:bbb. The Hylands will most likely win there fights but ***an could push Eddie close
Eddie Hyland v ***an was/is always going to be fight of the night. Really nice matchup and I think ***an will do him. Wasn't enough to make me buy a ticket though. I would have liked to see Patrick Hyland v Herrera but since that bout is scratched for the replacement I'm doubly glad I didn't shell out. Easy wins for Patrick and Paul Hyland as well as Spike tonight me thinks The Eddie -v- ***an fight will have to be worth the admission itself I think. And you never know it might just be! I don't suppose there is any chance someone thats going has a fancy interweb phone that could stick up the results as they happen for the rest of us?
It costs more to go to the dunne fight, Belfast is just up the road. And I want to get the tickets early to get the best seats.
