I agree with all this ... except Tyson put together devastating combinations. This I believe gives him a CHANCE, with Ali. "On any given night..."

Yeah i think Tyson and Frazier are two very different fighters and wouldn't bunch them together. The only similarity would be the aggressor role.

Yeah i see that, and the big thing for me is prime Tyson's ability to slip and counter with devastating explosiveness in centre ring. It's just Ali's heart and will to win that are massive for him even if things do go against him imo.

How was Ali ''good'' defensivelly ?

And no Ali was not to fast for Tyson Tyson one of the few fighters capable of matching alis speed.

In terms of effectiveness Ali's defence was better than good, even if it was a reflex based defence in his prime, worked a treat in a great era.

I think it would be a tight match early on, as Ali has his hands full with Iron Mike's unrelenting attack. However, Ali rolls with his punches, and gradually adjusts, as he always could. Ali constantly taunts him and gets into his head, frustrating Mike into intensifying his attack. But Ali would slip and counter, and over time Tyson would get worn out. Ali will even sometimes mix it up in the later rounds.

    Ali by late TKO.

reflex based defense does not work against guys with good footwork patience and the footspeed to keep up with you . Tyson is one guy that Ali's reflex based defense would work against him. Alis moving straight back from punches would see him dropped as he was against cooper and Frazier.

Ali wins but if would be a very hard fight.

If money is goig down then I pick Ali for many of the reasons metioned in this thread.

One point that I will make however is that Ali has never been in the ring with a finisher even close to Tyson. You can never be sure how he would hold up against it.

I can honestly see Tyson winning by KO and by that I mean the reff counts ten over Ali.

I would just want my money on Ali if it was going down.

Like i said, it's clear that his defence was far from technically proficient, but it was more than good in terms of effectiveness. Wether Tyson had the speed or not, that ring generalship and speed of foot would be doing him well here imo, regardless of Tyson's superb ability to counter and close distance with devastating explosiveness.

I'm a huge Tyson fan to the point of bias, but i still think that Ali's defence figures somewhat in a win for him here, personally.

Ali would not get stopped though, he took shots from some of the biggest punchers ever.

How else does Mike beat him? Tyson KO or Ali TKO seem to be the most likely outcomes. I don't think this one goes the distance.

Yeah just go with Ali tko to play it safe with me Chinx.

Just kidding, i think Ali on points is not with a stretch of the imagination though.

What a fight it would be if it did go that long... I do agree with Janitor's point that Ali was never in the ring with a "finisher' anything close to Tyson. Big ole George could hit, but he sure as hell couldn't finish in Zaire. I also agree that if I HAD to bet, I'm taking the even money or giving some odds against Mike. I think Ali had the requisites to outbox, punish and ultimately frustrate the hell out of Mike. Ali on his best night, Tyson on his, Ali outsmarts him and destroys him psychologically, then finishes him.
