I have some sympathy with that point of view, but I think maybe your scorecard might surprise you...one of those type of fights. If you do one be sure and kick it up. I've been operating under the impression that Ali was near sainted in New York by 1970 ish, but now check this out from the New York Daily New: "He has run out of white opponents, and now feels the need to white wash Frazier. And so, for the next weeks, Muhammad Ali, in his charming shrewdd way, will paint Joe Frazier as a the standardbearer of the white bigots, as the white man's lackey, the betrayer of his people, the Uncle Tom...It is a cruel and unworthy thing" I agree with every word of this, but it really is surprising me that he found so much trouble in the NY press.
I wil have to check Youtube, then. My recollection is that Ali sweeps clearly the first half of the fight. Frazier makes a comeback in the second half :huh
He whoops Frazier the first 3 rounds, the 4th could've gone either way and then Frazier takes the 5th.
Of course, Dick Young wrote for them (not sure they're his words) but Ali was no Rip Randall in his book either. Still, for every Young there was Simon Euen Smith "Ali's my fighter of the year...for 1973".
