Yeah, Liston could finish, but i agree Tyson was a better finisher, it's that speed and accuracy.

Knowing Ali, he would've shaken it off, even teased Tyson about it, further frustrating him, thus prodding him into punching air, wearing him out even further. I don't think a Tyson win is out of the question, but I think that would happen only if Ali is caught flush too many times. And I don't see that happening!

As a guy said earlier, Ali's ultimate challenge would be Marciano, IMO.

My god, if there was one time machine fight I would give my left arm to somehow have happen, this is it. I think the entire world would be watching!

If I had to bet my house its Ali via late TKO. But damn I think Iron Mike on his best nights gotta more than decent shot at the upset..at least once or twice if they fought ten times

Just the number of shots, the abundance of power punches. Like Ali, Mike was a phenomenon in the HW division. Both beautiful to watch. One a defensive master, one an offensive wonderkind.

Agree, maybe the most interesting hypothetical HW matchup? But, IMO, these guys fight three times, nobody's sweeping the series.

For me it is, hands down. I don't profess to be a great boxing historian, but I've been following the sport for 25 years and I can't imagine any mythical HW matchup being more compelling. EVEYONE would have an opinion, and EVERYONE sure as hell would watch! Imagine the unbearable anticipation as the two men walked to the ring....:D

I'm not an historian either, but I know these two guys. I'll agree with others on here, Teeto, McGrain that see Marciano as a viable opponent for Ali. And Rocky's real strength besides that sledgehammer he called a right hand, was his character. I don't believe Muhammad's psychological warfare works with the Rock. And I do have to wonder which Tyson show's up on this night. He was a mercurial man, as we know, easily upset. He could lose it before he even steps in the ring.

Yeah what's the damage on this pay per view? Five hundred U.S.?

Just thought it was worth a mention that the guys seen as most likely to have a shot at Ali were decidedly small for HW's. What no Jersey Joe? Why because he fought side to side instead of straight ahead?

Tyson always has a chance, though I think Ali would humiliate him in the weeks leading up to the fight, and we all know that mickey is a little fragile in the head.

Stylistically and pugilistically Ali has the advantages and my money would be on him to frustrate Tyson physically and mentally.

After 5 rounds or so Ali would be hitting him so often that he could force a stoppage.

That is the understatement of the year

Tyson would regress to a primal state under Ali's mercilessly taunting :yep

I have done so many times so I`ll keep it short.....

Ali uses the jab & loads of lateral movement to earn a hard fought decision.... Tyson would get inside at times due to his footwork & explosiveness & I believe he could/would do damage there but that power would bring Ali`s A+ game out because he would know he would need it & despite Tyson occassionally getting to him, I see Ali landing more from the outside & on his toes like the 1st Liston fight, fighting with a little fear but in his zone, really at his best.... it would be a real good clash of styles, 2 masters & it would be close all the way but I think Ali does better in the championship rds to pull away for a close but clear decision.

Ps. if Ali came in anything less than the form he was in for Liston, Tyson beats him IMO but Im assuming both will be on peak form so.....

    Ali W 12/15 Tyson

Cant say I agree with the ability part mate but to each their own I guess.

I see Ali`s ability in the ring when at his peak as as good as any fighter that ever lived TBH, not as textbook as say Louis but ability is using your gifts, whether they be athleticism, technique or both, to win, nobody is perfect & for the flaws Ali had, his strengths dwarfed them.

Ali was crazy good from 64-67, the most effective distance boxer Ive ever seen. A master.

You`d favour the Frazier that beat Ali in 71 to beat the Ali of 67 ? :admin
Dont see that at all mate, its (at least in my mind) beyond dispute that the 71 Ali that gave Frazier the hardest fight of his career (til that point) was like the ******ed twin of the 67 version.

The reason Joe beat Ali in 1971 was because.....
    1. Ali didnt have the legs to stay out of range in the 2nd half of the fight.
    2. His stamina.

Ali of 67 never gassed badly & always had legs for a full 15 while throwing more punches than the 70s version, he was simply better in every way except power & despite what some say, there aint a huge difference there either.

Ali 67 by clear UD.... 10-5 or 9-6 at worst.

We aint talking about the 90s or 2000s version of Tyson here, any ATG HWT that is matched against the 80s Tyson better make sure that they are prepared & in their zone completely otherwise the docters at rinside are in for a long shift.

Maybe so, but 80's Tyson never fought anybody like prime Ali. I'm not saying this would be easy, but I do see Ali getting into Tyson's head. He would eventually lessen the effects of Tyson's pressure with his elusiveness and speed, all the while slipping and countering. Ali would push the right buttons, Tyson would react, and end up wearing himself out in the process.

I wouldn't underrate Iron Mike or what he brings into the fight, but in this one I would bet the house on Ali.
