pac said this on his article...

"Walang championship belt ang napagkasunduan sa laban na ito dahil sa catch weight na 145 pounds, 2 pounds na mas mababa kaysa sa 147 welterweight limit. Pero kahit na walang belt na nakataya, mas mahalaga pa rin na paglalabanan namin ni Cotto ang pagiging No. 1, pound-for-pound at siguradong umaatikabong bakbakan ito, walang takbuhan at walang atrasan o habulan."

    translation:

"There are no championship belt that were agreed upon for this fight because of the catch weight of 145 pounds, 2 pounds less of the welterweight limit. But even if there is no belt at stake, what's important is the fight between me and cotto which is for the pound-for-pound #1 and it would surely be a fantastic match without any running, back-pedalling or chasing."

    ^^ **** that.

What is this? A tune-up fight? What would Pac get fighting Cotto at 145?

I don't get it. Seriously. With the belt, it makes sense. Without it, no sense at all, except it is a money fight.

But he could have the money at the same time, the title.

He really should have agreed at 147 in the first place.

No excuses, with the title at the line, and all the big bucks, for him to get.

even if the fight is at 147, if cotto doesn't want to pay the sanction fees, it would still not be a title fight.

but he won't have any excuses for that kind of primadona act if he can weigh up to 147. As is, he can do that, and no one can give him hell for that.

i think the only thing that is preventing this fight to be a title match is just because of the sanction fees which cotto does not want to pay. maybe, this was already discussed on the negotiations and arum must have convinced team pac that it would not be for a title fight by adding extra perks in what pac would receive.

also, it would be in arum's best interest to not stake cotto's belt at welter in case pac would beat cotto. he just extended cotto's contract and if cotto would be beaten with the belt at stake, cotto would not be the welterweight champ anymore.

it's clear that arum is only serving his interest and not pac. pac should demand that this fight is for cotto's belt because a 7th title would look good in his legacy 20 to 30 years from now.

Absolutely true. This fight should have been at 147 in the first place. Cotto made 146 last time out, is it worth all the aggravation to make him spit out 1lb more?

Legacy + title > 1 lb less for Cotto

I guess it's not only Hatton who thinks the p4p title is transferred in a fight.

Even Pacquiaio doesn't care about title belts. Beside the title that Cotto holds is really a paper title in all honesty cause Cotto did won a vacated title by beating freaking Jenning. The real champion at 147 pounds is Mosley. So if Pacquiao wants to be the 7th division champion, fight Mosley for it. But this fight is a great step for Manny cause beating a legit ww in Cotto will make Manny vs Mosley even bigger or vs Mayweather would be even more huge. But like i said in my previous post this fight don't need title belts. Mostly alot of people that are celabraties or sports guys are talking about Pacquiao vs Cotto not about title belts. I bet Jeter and Kobe forgot that Cotto is the ww champion.

i'd still like to see them fight though. would you like to see them fight even at a 145 weigh-in?

    :deal

    Two things:
    1) Pacquaio has fought at 147 before, just last year.

    2) Cotto weighed in at 146 last time.

Will there be any difference if he allow Cotto to weigh in at max 147 and fight for the WW title?
