what the hell? atsch anyway, I expect this to be a hell of a fight. Sues2nd is doing a great job breaking down the styles, as always. Great thread so far. Williams movement has vastly improved since Quintana I. He doesnt go straight back, has good head movement and changes angles. He does all of that on top of throwing punches at all times. One thing that hasnt been mentioned about Williams is his timing. I think thats what throws fighters off when they fight him. Its hard to catch his timing, with his improved movement and ability to throw from multiple angles hes a tough match up for anyone. Pavlik has a damn good jab but I dont think he deals with movement well. If anyone takes that as a knock, its not, dude is a fantastic fighter but I just dont think Williams is a good match up for him. I'll dare to say that Pavlik has more power then anyone Williams has faced so his chin will be tested. I wouldnt be surprised to see Williams rocked but I've got an inkling that he's got a good beard and will weather the storm. I'm not so sure Kelly will weather the storm from Williams who's got decent power and throws alot. Kelly is going to get hit with something he doesnt see coming in this fight. Fact.
How is that a what the hell.... everyone is on his nutsack, but when I see highlights I'm not all too impressed..... fanboy...
you've never seen him fight but then say he's overrated, that equals a what the hell. How about formulate your own opinions before jumping on the overrated train. Just a suggestion, you can call me a dick or whatever. Also, I'm not a fanboy, of anyone. I'm a fan of boxing. I try to be as objective as possible when it comes to all fighters.
It's only a what the hell because you obviously aren't reading.... highlights isn't actually watching him fight....
Fair enough. Though, that said, against Lockett he threw an average of 84 punches a round; against Zertuche he threw well into the eighties for the majority of the fight. I also remember he threw 119 punches in the first round against Pierre. Anyway, the historical details really aren't important. The fact is that both fighters are capable of fighting at a tremendously high pace, and so it's highly unlikely that one will overwhelm the other. I'm not denying that PW can move, but it's not just a case of head movement. Pavlik has fought guys that can slip punches (Jermain) and bobbers and weavers before, and he just times the jab properly and sets up the right from there. I don't think it's head movement that bothers KP - when you're in range, his jab will hone in - it's footwork. After all, Hopkins beat Pavlik by staying out of range, jumping in and then tying Pavlik up, rather than staying in range, ducking and dodging and then countering. I don't think PW's head movement will trouble Pavlik that much. Sure, but the point is that it's close. Paul is used to having a comically lopsided height and reach advantage over all of his opponents, meaning he can dominate them without them ever getting off. Pavlik, on the other hand, will be able to hit him back more or less as soon as he gets in range. KP wll be the first tall, rangy opponent PW's faced, which immediately takes one of the things that make him a great fighter away. They may be totally different stylistically, but they're alike in physique, and physique determines chin to a large extent. PW is a lanky guy, and I just can't envisage him handling KP's bombs.
Pavlik was never properly hurt in that fight. He never looked stunned, partially-conscious or off-balance. And he was getting hit full blast from a Light-Heavyweight with decent pop. Look at 2:05 in that video. B-Hop hits KP with several consecutive solid shots, and Pavlik isn't shaken from it.
Exactly thanks for supporting my opinion. Good Point. so why say he's overrated if you've never actually seen him fight? Get it. :good
exactly, its all timing but I dont think Williams is that easy to time. The guy is awkward as hell, has some good movement, throws from all angles with a good arsenal of punches. I think timing the guy isnt going to be easy for Pavlik
Because of his highlights..... which is why I said I'm on the fence on this one... Which is why I said THINK he's overrated..... get it?
pav t/ko. it's a tough call and i can see williams maybe somehow edging out a decision, but i really think he's gonna get caught quite a few times with big right hands and how he will deal with that from a bigger, stronger, very hard-hitting pavlik has yet to be seen. if he can take what pavlik's got, PW has a good chance of winning this fight. i've never seen paul hurt, but he's never been in there with a guy like pavlik.
I just hope this fight happens to rescue the MW division. Williams and Pavlik both need a big name opponent and each other are the only real options now Abraham is at 168 and Forrest passed, Sturm is a nobody. Pavlik is stronger at 160 and a bigger puncher, Williams is rangier and faster with a better workrate. Both are in their prime and ready to rumble. Makings of a classic, please let it happen
Just for the record, I don't demean PW in any way and I don't think this fight is in any way a foregone conclusion. Stylistically, though, I just can't see PW keeping Pavlik off of him; and Pavlik is the bigger, stronger, tougher guy.
i don't know about tougher. i think they're both gonna go out there knowing theyre gonna get hit either much more than usual (pavlik's case) or much harder than ever before (pw's case). williams has taken a ton of punches in his career and never been hurt. the guys a very durable dude.
