Jimmy bivins and Lloyd Marshall just as great if not greater than Charly Burley?

Yes especially Marshall. I rate Burley high but never understood how people can place Burley in the top 20/25 p4p yet have Holman and Marshall so low often outside of top 50. Holman and Mashall possibly have better resume as well.

It's a bit of a shame that Bivins and Marshall do not get the respect they deserve.

Marshall was inconsistent and Bivins at the end of his career lost as much as he won, but at their best both could produce great results and beat many great fighters.

Bivins' went unbeaten from 1942 to 1946. The number of great fighters he beat during that period is astonishing. Unfortunately his best years were during the Second World War when the world titles were "frozen" and thus he never received an official title shot. Bivins at nearly 90 years of age is amazingly still among us, considering what he has gone through in his life.

 

Bivins is probably my number one of the era of the 'uncrowned champs', excluding Moore of course, and Charles. Marshall's win resume is probably the best, but i like Bivins then Burley personally.

 

I do think at their respective pound for pound primes though that Burley may have been the best.

 

Burley was a WW who went upto MW and LHW because he was froze out. His resume is far deeper than Williams, just look at some of the guys he faced his resume is bloody deep. Marshall was a MW turned LHW, hence 2 modern weight classes bigger than Burley.

Bivins was a LHW turned HW, 4 modern weight classes bigger than Burley.

 

Bivin's very est weight was not too far from middle from what i bleieve.

 

Bivins and Marshall didn't outweigh Burley by that much when they fought each other though. He wasn't facing any disadvantages in height or reach either.

Holman Williams was outweighed the same amount by Burley but it didn't stop him from winning a 15 round decision.

 

Bivins was only a middleweight at the time they fought. On top of that, he had just turned pro earlier in the year and had only had about 10 fights, while Burley was already an established leading contender. That Bivins was able to go to Burley's hometown and dominate him like that is huge.

 

what humbles me is how classy bivins is and i remember him saying in a interview that he just tried his best and sometimes it was enough, but he dident consider himself a better fighter then those he beat. what a gentlemen.

he should have at least this accomplishment and that was that he was i believe the first ever intrim champion in two divisions at once, heavyweight and lightheavyweight.
