I met Amir Khan and his team on board a flight to vegas. Despite him being a millionaire he was flying economy and they upgraded his party half way into the flight into the business section. To me he was just a D level celeb but the cabin crew were acting like he was royalty.
Ah yeah, it was after the first Mosley fight, right? That was a LONG time ago. Seems like yesterday. I'm old as hell. *yawn*

Before the Williams-Margarito fight we were on Santa Monica Pier for the press conference. I had a chance to talk briefly with Margarito and his manager. Margo seemed really cool as ****. Even though he knew I was there with Paul and Co. they were very cordial. Later that day, I sat in front of the Crown Reef talkin **** with Chris Arreola and one of his buddies. This is before he got fat. I was telling him if the boxing thing didn't work out, he could always try to play Linebacker or something. He was like "Hell No!" They run too fast! He is a real clown. He could actually do stand-up comedy if he worked on it a little. In Temeculah at the Pechanga where Paul lost to Quintana, My father and I got to the San Diego airport. We rode in the Limo/shuttle with Berto's Mother and Father. He was fighting that weekend too. We talked about how Andre was moving up, etc. His parents were really cool. Later that day we ate lunch with them, and I met Andre and his younger brother who played football for Cal - San Francisco. In Connecticut, at the Mohegan, I hung out with Sergio Mora and his crew from LA. They were also Margarito's boys (Margo and Mora were in the same gym), and were bragging about how Margo was gonna beat Cotto. After the fights (Mora beat Forrest and Paul beat Carlos) I had a chance to have drinks with Buddy McGirt, who was a bit of a pimp. I also had a chance to speak to Carlos Quintana afterwards, and hung out with one of his "Entourage" for a little while in the hotel lobby, since this fool seemed to know a lot of the Puertorican chicks who had driven up from NY. I always liked Carlos Quintana, because he seemed like a real humble, honest, hard-working guy.
I had the pleasure of meeting Ike Williams years ago....very nice guy somewhat sad in that he looked totally broke. Floyd Patterson was a pleasure meeting as well, we talked over his book "Victory over Myself". Roberto Duran and I chatted up for quite a while (thru an interpreter)...Ray Leonard was very intense (he was training for Lalonde), Tommy Hearns (very nice guy), the great J.C.C. (actually had a chance to train with him for a few days at G.G.'s in Vegas), Terry Norris (all business), Jorge Paez (we watched in amazement as he removed yet another shirt after each round of sparring....I counted eight), "Irish" Leroy Haley, Lonnie Smith, Michael Nunn (spent the night running thru the club looking for his $3 million purse check which he'd lost), Orlando Canizales, (explained to me how doing roadwork at night was better for him than in the morning), T. Morrison (I did a few interviews with him and I was surprised at how smart he was), Roger Mayweather (went a few rounds with him, man, for a little guy he could hit), Ron Lyle & Iran Barkley (neither was in a great mood when I met them, Barkley seemed deeply depressed), Robert "Bam-Bam" Hines and I happened to be in an elevator at the Hilton in Vegas when the damn thing just stopped and we were trapped together for 15 or so minutes...I thought Hines was gonna loose it...he was like a caged animal.
