Dude, no. Come on. Kelly executed his gameplan very well that night, but don't go trying to give him credit for taking the best Miranda could dish out. His gameplan of backing Miranda up from the very opening moment neutralized all of Pantera's offense. Kelly was in no danger all night. That was just a one sided beatdown all the way. Lacy got more meaningful punches in against Calzaghe than Miranda did against Pavlik.
Kelly hasnt necessarily faced a who's who of punchers around his weight class. Jermain has never been known as a power puncher and he had Kelly on ***** street. As far as Miranda is concerned, Pavlik completely took Miranda out of that fight and neutralized anything he was trying to do. Edison never landed anything that was huge. Kelly owned Miranda all night. I've never seen Williams hurt the way I've seen Pavlik. I'm not shitting on Pavlik at all, he's a damn good fighter, I just think Williams is a bad style match up for him.
Pav took 6 or so shots in a row, plus 2 or 3 elbows, then stuck his jaw out and said give me more. He was on the canvas for a 2 count and was back up. By the end of the round he was throwin back. Pav has an amazing recovery ability. I dont think PW has enough power to knock Pav down.
Never said he did. But Taylor was able to earn a modicum of respect at least, and I don't think he really hits much harder than Williams at 160.
If the fight gets announced I'll go back and watch some of Williams' fights more closely, but I got the impression in the Wright fight that his volume came at the expense of power. He was throwing a lot of arm punches. I don't see that being effective against Kelly. Couple that with people saying Pdub will be throwing going backwards. That may score points but it won't do any damage. Bottom line, we don't know a lot about what Pdub will have at 160 based on what we have seen so far.
Winky is a really good common opponent to watch, actually. Paul came closer to bursting through his turtle shell than Jermain, IMO. He did throw some judge-bait combos, it's true - but he also mixed in some bad intentions - and moreso than Bad Intentions himself.
i don't remeber WW stunning him but i do remeber Quintana stunning him on more then one occassion in their first fight. even had me thinking CQ might be able to get a ref stoppage if he had stepped on the Gas. but PW has improved since then ijust think Kp will be just to big and to Strong for pw. Kp by Ko in 6 PW gots a great chin but he'll get hit by that straight right hand to often for his own good what i really want to know is both measurements from the arm pit to the end of the fist to see who has a longer reach. i know PW gots a long wingspand but lets see what really matters
I've been wondering about arm length too. Just can't remember it for either guy. These guys that keep talking like all you have to do is give KP a little head and lateral movement, and you'll bamboozle him are insane. Watch Kelly throw that long left hook. That's what he normally uses to neutralize lateral movement. Ya move away from the right, ya get beat up by left hooks. Ya move away from the hook, ya get battered with right hands. It did not work on BHop, but PWilly ain't no BHop.
PW is going to hit Pav at will at times, but what we will find out in this fight is that if PW hits hard enough to hurt Pav. PW is the better boxer, but he will be fighting a naturally bigger man. I got PW by ko in 9.
