Toney would sit in the pocket and counter Joe for 12 rounds, but it would still be close due to the odd stylistic match up

    116-112 Toney

Name a single uncontroversial KO of a decent fighter in Joe's entire career.

This is why people laugh at stupid nuthugging posts.

Joe struggles with a few over the hill greats and suddenly he's a great?

    LMFAO.

Yeah, Prime Calzaghe might KTFO Toney's mom. But I doubt it.

It's hard to call Hopkins over the hill when he dominated Tarver, Winky, lost a close one to Joe and then dominates Pavlik. Joe had no struggles against Roy.

No it is not. Are you kidding? Hop was past prime before Trinidad. I've been watching him fight since 1990 (not watching tapes of his career starting ten years ago <g>). You might want to focus on the age of Hops victims (Tarver 38 YEARS OLD coming off a tough weight loss in a short time, Winky 36 YEARS OLD almost sixty fights and at a weight Winky has never fought at (16 lbs above his best weight), Calzaghe 36 YEARS OLD who was never talented enough to fight great fighters in their prime PERIOD, and every ATG can rise to the occasion on a night as he did against Pavlik (who we will eventually realize was never gonna be an ATG himself).

As for Joe's career. Just search my posts. There are many that address the illusion - it isn't always WHO you fight, but WHEN you fight them that matters. I'd take Joe over Ali in 2009. WTF would that mean?

If Hop was prime he would have DESTROYED Jermaine. Prime Hop is far more aggressive, talented, skilled, and tough to struggle with Jermaine Taylor who is a decent athlete and good fighter (but no ATG). But Hop wasn't anywhere close to prime so he struggled in close fights.

Calzaghe would easily outbox Toney, easily.

Polarizing thread. I'm undecided for the record.

Close fight, but I think Joe adapts early enough to escape with a points win. His ability to recover and conditioning is the X factor for me.

Toney is a master counter puncher who had very fast hands at lower weights and excellent movement. He would catch JC early and rattle him. Calzaghe wouldnt have a chance to recover because Toney would finish him.

This fight would be a mismatch.

Its hard to pick against Toney.

Toney has faced top LINE/ELITE ATG?HOF in their prime and been succesful.

Joe has never a fighter of Elite calibre @ their peak so its hard to gauge how he would do.

Hopkins is closest and he was no where near his best of 6-7 years ago.

    No he wouldn’t.

Toney would knock him a **** out.

Actually maybe Calzaghe should unretired, come heavyweights and fight Toney, because he seems to like fighting aging greats so much.

There were differences between Nunn and Calzaghe. Nunn was quicker, taller and moved around the ring better than Calzaghe. In addition,. Toney was still a little green back then, he was at his best in the 168 pound division in my opinion.
