Muhammad Ali " Jack Dempsey Is A Joke " ?

Hmmm... I wonder if he thought Frazier was a joke... Not totally analogous fighters but not far off either.

 

I believe Ali would have won by virtue of his superior size and boxing ability.

I think that Dempsay's win over Willard is curiously overrated.

 

Ali wins the fight easy I think. I know that video (And the guy who uploaded it). But on the subject, Dempsey is not a joke. But just looking at the Williard fight I can sort of understand why he would have this sort of primitive opinion on him.

 

Dempsey is no joke. But Ali is the greatest and in this matchup I have to say that Ali wins easy.

I take it the only Dempsey footage you've seen was the last 60 seconds of the first round of his fight against Willard.

 

No no no that post was a mistake I was thinking of another fighter back in those days, not Jack Dempsey. As I have said earlier in a different thread Dempsey was pretty much like a Joe Frazier massive head movement and was able to close the gap quickly. I have seen many clips of Jack Dempsey that post was a mistake.

 

Anyone who thinks that Dempsey is a soft touch is insane!!!

 

Frankly, that's the kind of thing I hated about Ali. Talking **** about guys fighting in your own era is one thing, but there's no sense and no class in calling out anybody whose been retired that long and paid their dues to the sport- champion or not. Dick move if I ever saw one. It's a fight Ali should win, but if he took that kind of attitude going into a fight with Dempsey, he'd be in for a brutal revelation.

 

You cant argue with Ali, I agree with him, Dempsey looked like a wild slugger & he was lighter than Ali, I think Ali stops him within 8 rds.

You do know that that actual show was entirely about how Ali viewed all the past great HWT champions right ? :huh

Would you rather he lied & said he felt Dempsey was a great boxer... he praised Tunney, Charles & Marciano to name a few, he even said Jack was a good fighter for his time.

And to answer your question, absolutely. Imagine if the Klitschkos or Lennox Lewis decided to point out Ali's flaws and use that to call him a joke in an interview 10 years from now- they've got every right to say it, but I've also got every right to call it a dick move to call a past HW great a joke. It's a matter of respect.

I simply prefer my trash talking fighters to stick to ragging on guys they can actually prove it against. :deal
