For anyone who saw the HBO (channel 4 in england) it was clearly stated that after the 14th round ali despite leading on all score cards was asking to have his gloves cut off before it was realised that faraziers corner had retired him. A moment after being declared the winner ali collapsed proving that he would be unable to finish the 15th round and was not willingly to go out for the start of this round unlike frazier who was fighting with his corner to be allowed to continue.

My question is how do you view alis victory here do you count it as a win for him as it says officially or for frazier for being the only figther willing to fight on.

For me this i like to meet in the middle and call it a draw leaving the total for there 3 fights 1 to Ali 1 to Frazier and 1 even.

Anyone eles have similer views to mine or opinions there own about this fight?

ali collapsed at the end of the foreman fight. maybe he wouldn't have come out for round 9 if it went that far

    Oh dear.

Maybe Ali-Liston I has to go down as a 5th round stoppage for Sonny too as Clay was blinded and threatened to quit then or should we just call that a draw?

You basically said only Frazier wanted to fight on. Joe hardly showed much resistance to Futch's stoppage and Ali actually did fight on.

To me Frazier would've gone out for the 15th round but he as well as his trainer Futch must have known that it would be very dangerous to his health to take any more of that kind of punishment. Still, I wouldn't say that he wanted to quit.

Ali had beaten Frazier to a pulp in the 14th round but he had also thrown everything he had at Frazier who was still standing. He may have had some second thoughts but I'm sure he would've come out for the 15th. If not, then Dundee would've pushed him out there like he did in the first Liston fight.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 15th would have actually been a boring round with a lot of holding because both were absolutely spent.

Ali didn't exactly collapse, he went on a knee after a grueling fight to get some rest and sounded very coherent in the post-fight interview. Frazier left the ring with a disappointed look to him but not long after gave an interview in which he seemed satisfied with his effort. He had given it his all.

I think so too. Frazier never quit, neither did Ali. I think both men were knackered and it would have been 3 minutes of hugging and leaning until the final bell.

I'm the first to get tired of the endless Ali-praising, but the "Ali wanted to quit!" rants are just embarrassingly pathetic. :patsch Actions speak louder than words...

Ali would've come out for the 15th and would've secured a victory. Like others have said, it probably would just be 3 minutes of hugging. Frazier was absolutely spent as his powerful left hook was reduced to a desperate slap.

Ali would have come out in the 15:th as Frazier. The reason Ali went down on his knee after the fight was probably that he knew that the fight was over so he could just relax and do what he wanted.
Both of them would have come out even for five more rounds, however I don“t think Frazier could have taken much more.
Two of the best fighters ever.
Wonder if klitschkos could have survived these kind of wars.

    Thank you.

I'm really sick of this subject. It's like holding on to something and trying to change history. I don't get it. Think what you want, though.

This has been done to death mate....

That wasnt a `Thrilla in Manila` documentary, that was a `Joe Frazier` documentary.... one of the most biased doc`s Ive ever seen in my life, I still enjoyed it tho TBH.

To answer your question tho.... NO.

Its 2-1 Ali, no way Ali doesnt come out for the LAST rd in a fight were he has just put together the 2 most dominant rds he ever has in 41 rds vs his most hated rival in a fight were his title is on the line & he has a big enough lead that Joe needed a KO to win.

Only Frazier diehards would be delusional enough to try & change a convincing TKO victory into a draw.... now things are getting really silly here, really silly.

    :patsch

Christ ! HOW DESPERATE ARE YOU?:patsch
If Frazier had come out for the last round Ali would have, and he would have stopped Joe imo.Futch did the right thing ,for 2 rounds Frazier was getting tagged solidly with right hands he couldnt see coming.

It's an Ali win. Who cares what was "said in the corner"? Off the two, Frazier was more need of rescuing and he was rescued first.
