Lewis vs Mavrovic. Anybody remember that fight?

I have a collection of almost all Lewis fights and this one is certainly very entertaining.

When I started following boxing I immediately read up on this fight because I'd followed Mavrovic as a kid and I read stuff like "unknown contender", "record padded with soft European competition", so I thought he wasn't much - just KOed a bunch of bums.

I remember, as a kid, every time a fight of his was announced you'd just know he'd knock the opponent out. Just like with Mirko Cro Cop later in MMA.

Such a shame!

 

The same could be said for most fighters coming out of Europe. Vitali, Valuev etc had "padded records" up to a point. I'm not knocking them per se (almost EVERY fighter starts out fighting bums), it's just that the "lesser" opponents in Europe are completely unknown in the USA even though they are no worse than the usual record padders in the USA (Zuri Lawrence, Al Cole, Sed Fields, Jimmy Thunder, Shufford etc..)

 

Yeah, I know, but, at the time, I was just getting into boxing and didn't know how things worked.

 

Mavrovic had some infection called Mononucleosis, something unusually frequent among professional athlets. He never really recovered from that, not unlike several other pro athlets. There are some soccer players who temporarily ended up in a wheelchair from that disease from sheer weakness, like for example most notably Markus Babbel (Ex-Liverpool).

Those last few punches mav took at the end of the round show how good his chin was, he looked good though earlier on in that round, i forgot how good he was

 

I think SArah meant with his ****ed up nut huggers, I mean Lennox's. When ever LL had some tough times at ring he was unmotivated, took opponent lightly, wasnt preparent, and yet getting better 6-9lb over weight for a 240 lb man=out of shape:yep. Lennox's losses can not been counted too, he is basically unbeaten, look what he did in rematches, that's what his fan girls are saying

 

Lewis had problems with Mavrovich (a guy who never beat ANYONE).

But Lewis would KO Waldo and Vitlay in round 1. Seriously the Klit haters are totally out of their mind. The glorification of ALL OF LEWIS OPPONENTS is crazy.

McCall = Super Boxer
Rahman = Super Puncher
Mavrovich = Super tough guy

Lennox tend to get way over rated when he and klits gets meantioned in same sentence.

 

I have the fight PVR'd off ESPN Classic. Mavrovic was actually a good fighter. It wasn't really a poor performance from Lewis.

 

Mavrovic was a world class fighter.

Shame he could never REALLY prove it after the Lewis fight.

Exactly how is Mavrovic better that Golota?
