1. People here talk about "the Klitschkos", there's no such thing as that, there's a dominant all-time great Wladimir and a rather pedestrian Vitali. 2. Povetkin is vying with Vitali for #2. The GREAT match-up with Wlad is the least talked-about superfight in boxing. Unfortunately Wlad has too much for my man Alex. 3. The most underrated fighter in all of boxing is the very bland yet very effective Tony Thompson. He only lost to Wlad in the last 8 years. 4. The most OVERrated boxer strangely is also a heavyweight. It's Eddy Chambers who lost 3-9 to Povetkin, cant crack an egg and is regarded as a top contender. I can only scratch my head and I picked him to KO the bum Dimitrenko. 5. I think Arreola shouldn't fight Vitali but rather a couple of contenders but I give him a shot, I dont think hes a no-hoper. 6. For years I wondered who Dennis Boytsov reminds me of. Only recently I realized it's Dominic Guinn. Good power and technique, looks to be in shape but just doesnt get off. 7. Odlanier Solis is 6:1 favorite against Kevin Johnson for my money.
good post, I especially agree about #2. When was the last time the two olympic gold medal winners fougth for the HW title? 74 in Zaire.
i agree with #3 tony thompson is criminal underrated on esb, the same thing was for ibragimov, he was so underrated. but vitali is much better than povetkin, and povetkin is a great fighter, but wlad will knock him out, wlad is just too big and too fast and too strong
1. Wlad is the more skilled brother, but falls apart when the going gets tough. Vitali is less skilled, but the tougher brother. Wlads the better boxer, Vitali's the better fighter. 2. Povetkin is overrated, keeps delaying inevitable with Wlad. Never fought a big puncher in his career. His best wins over all light punchers, Bryd, Donald, Chambers. 3. Thompson took the Tye Fields route, fighting C and D class heavyweights for 7 years of his career to stay undefeated. His best win is over Luan Krasniqi, and a faded one at that. 4. Chambers is skilled and extremely fast in the hands, he was beating Povetkin to the punch early in the match, his stamina lost him that fight, not his skill set which is superior to Povetkins IMO. 5. Arreola sucks, but so does 80% of the top 20 heavyweights, at least he got power. 6. Then his career should be very up and down then, and will never quite get to the top just like Guinn. 7. It should be an interesting fight, I doubt Solis will knock him out quick like every other contender he fights.
h2h Vitaly beat Wlad in 90% of the time which does not make him pedestrian. So bad Vitaly is so injury prone which significantly reduces his credibility
It will be interesting to see where Wladimir is put in boxing history. I think he will be quickly forgotten. But maybe in 30 years time his name will pop up.
True, I personally like Vitali better, he's tough and doesn't fold after taking a decent punch or when his oppenent is on the attack.
Although I really like Vitali and am glad to see him fighting again, he really has done a disservice to Wlad because he is there lingering around as the #2 heavy whom Wlad will never fight. So when the thread starter mentions "the klitschkos" always being lumped together as if they were the same person, it takes away from Wlad (who has more left in a career than older vitali).
Styles make fights. Vitali would beat Wlad by KO but Wlad is the better boxer. Vatili can be out boxed and loose on points. No one is going to outpoint Wlad without the size of his brother. Simply put every for every fighter there is another fighter with their number. Vitali has Wlads number.
No. 1. Wlad lost three times early in his career but not "when the going gets tough" but because he underestimated his opponents and has a suspect chin. These days are gone (see Sam Peter fight). 2. Povetkin faced top punchers at amateur, beat Cammarelle five times and also Timurziev and was never KOd. I agree that his pro opposition werent hard punchers if you agree that his pro opposition was the best of any prospect not only at heavy but p4p. 3. I agree that his best win was over faded Krasniqi and that Chambers for example has better wins. I disagree, however, with the Tye Fields comparison. Fields is a chinny fraud and just padded his record, Thompson beat a couple of fringe contenders like Timus Ibragimov and Dominic Guinn. The prime reason Chambers has better wins than Thompson is that he lost his eliminator (to Povetkin) and Thompson won his. 4. I totally agree with you, except you imply that Chambers COULD have a better punch output. I don't. I don't think stamina brought him down but a natural athletic limit. He has three good-looking wins but Dimitrenko is a BUM and he cought Brock (probably his best win) and Peter on the way down. Thats not his fault, I respect him, I just don't believe he is one of the 10 best heavies in the world, even his wins support a rating. 5. I never understood the Arreola-hating. 6. Probably. 7. SolĂs has a lot to prove but I fail to understand why so many people believe Johnson is the favorite.
