If you could re-organize boxing how would you set it up?

As I see it right now, capitalism is hurting boxing. Sure it can set up some good fights because of the demand for two exciting fighters to face each other, but overall there are too many competting interests among promoters, managers, tv stations, and belt organizations. Who ends up getting hurt, boxers and trainers in general, and most of all the fans. We have to pay a premium to be a dedicated fan to watch the most exciting fights on ppv.

If I could reorganize boxing, there would be one world title, one set of rankings, yearly tournament to determine the champion, no matter how popular the fighter or the fighters nationality, and fights would be televized on regular cable so all fans could watch the fights.

    What are your thoughts?

One Organization to rule them all obviously.

But boxers have to fight atleast 3 times a year. 1 mandatory. 2 championship fights. THe break between fights is disgusting.

    One organization.....

    all fighters under one roof
    one champion per class

Also... if everyone was under the same organization and they have the rights and such, they could start marketing boxing the way it should be done, dvd's, shirts, posters, ect, ect....

    its so obvious it hurts....

the other thing is having tournaments now and then like what showtime is doing, thats one of the best things to happen to boxing since at least ive been around.

i think we all agree, 1 wght, 1 champion. also, a solid policy on a champion who cannot (or will not) defend. if a champion doesn't defend for more then 12 months, due to injury, illness, or out of ring issues (like say a guy goes to jail). strip him and beguin a tournament. also, new pro's fight each other until they get 10 wins. then you fight guys with 10-20 wins. after that they are open. this should help cut down on fighters feasting on ham and egger's to beef up there records, as well as, give the chance to scale pay. one last thing: under one sactioning body, how about some insurance for these guys that put their asses on the line to entertain us? what do the sactioning bodies do anyway?

I like the plan above. I would def. like to see a universal health insurance for athletes, perhaps some financial classes so boxers don't blow all thier money in their youth so they think they have to keep fighting past their prime, and a even fights, not just because of record padding, but because of inexperienced fighters being killed fighting experienced fighters, and a pay scale based on records, and who wins the fight, (not popularity).

I will take away all the division with "super" or "junior" and the cruiser weight division. I will also have 1 and only world champion belt.

as a fan, I want to start an online petition for the reorganization of boxing.

Everything you said + the return of 15 rounds but only for championship fights (same as before) & it can only happen if both champion AND challenger agree, if one doesnt want 15, then its automatically a 12 rounder.
    I think thats fair.

    :good
