That is almost like me saying:

The way Leon Spinks handeled Ali makes me think that Dempsey would have done so as well.

    or

The Henry Cooper fight makes me think that Dempsey would have knocked Ali out.

He thought Frazier was a joke before he thought him.

He thought Marciano was a joke before he sparred with the 44 year old version.

I don't know how Ali Dempsey is going to end but either way Ali is going to eat some humbel pie afterwards.

The 1919 "Hobo Camp" Dempsey and the 1926-27 Dempsey were 2 different breeds of cat.

The Ali of the Holmes fight was a shell of himself too.

Dempsey was 6'1" with a 77 " reach. Not that much smaller than Ali, who fought very upright. Dempsey at 190 lbs destroyed at least 3 men that weighed from 210 lbs to 265 lbs.

An example of the destruction of Fred Fulton:

"Dempsey rushed Fulton at the bell, got inside, and hammered him with a right under the heart and a left to the belly. Fulton floundered and Dempsey stepped back, then hooked a left to the giant's head and a terrific right to the point of the chin. The big man tottered and fell sideways to the floor of the ring, his head resting on his right arm, which pinned down the lower rope of the three which encircled the ring. He tried to push himself up, but collapsed and had to be dragged back to his corner."

    Anything can happen with Heavyweights.

Patently untrue. He weight about 10 pounds more than Dempsey during his best period of work. True, Joe used more of a guard but both pressured and used a bob and weave. Dempsey had more dynamite in his hand, Joe had greater stamina.

Joe was a slow a starter though, from what I've seen Dempsey is so fericous he would attack Ali like a missile but the question is could he catch him ? What was Dempseys stamina and mental toughness like ?

Dempsey was a bad mofo who had fought in unlicensed bouts in bars and hobo camps.

He was mentally and physically tough. Ali's jawing would be just like water off a ducks back to Dempsey....kinda like Norton as a Marine didn't take Ali seriously either.

In fairness to Muhammad, he didn't actually say Dempsey is a joke. He says at one point: "This is a joke." I think he was referring to the fight with Willard, which did quickly turn into a mismatch.
He seemed to give Dempsey his props, and nothing he actually said in the interview was really out of order, except saying that George Foreman was a scientific boxer, which clearly he was not.

Before his Foreman bout Ali was saying how Liston hits harder than Foreman, has longer reach and better jab and imitated robot moves saying that's how Foreman fights, but all of a sudden Foreman is a scientific boxer now...

without watching the clip I don't know when he was referring to Foreman; but George did 'box' more in his early days before he just started estroying everyone early.

12 rounds. Modern rules. Primes. Location: Saskatoon (where else?).

    01. Ali meets Dempsey head on. Dempsey, on the attack, hurts Ali to the body and then staggers Ali with an overhand right. Dempsey 10-9 (Dempsey 10-9.)

    02. Ali, dancing around and boxing, easily wins the round as Dempsey misses often. Ali 10-9. (Even 19-19.)

    03. Repeat round 2. Ali 10-9. (Ali 29-28.)

    04. Repeat rounds 2 and 3. Ali 10-9. (Ali 39-37)

    05. Repeat rounds 2, 3, and 4. (Ali 49-46.)

    06. Ali meets Dempsey head-on again. This time he staggers Dempsey with an uppercut. Ali 10-9. (Ali 59-55.)

    07. Dempsey knocks Ali down with a left hook. Ali rises quickly and takes an 8 count. Dempsey, on the attack, punishes Ali to the body and head. Dempsey 10-8. (Ali 67-65.)

    08. Close round. Dempsey, on the attack, hurts Ali to the body but misses wild to the head. Ali comes back later in the round, moving and boxing. Even 10-10. (Ali 77-75.)

    09. Ali, dancing and boxing, tagging Dempsey from long range. Occasional hard body blow from Dempsey. Dempsey missing head shots. Ali 10-9 (Ali 87-84.)

    10. Ali opens up with combinations. Dempsey not doing much in this round. Ali lands a hard shot to Dempsey's nose. Dempsey returns to his corner with his nose bleeding heavily. [Dempsey = Broken nose.] Ali 10-9. (Ali 97-93.)

    11. Dempsey gets inside and roughs Ali up to the body. A Dempsey left hook, followed by a right hand knocks Ali down hard. Ali rises at the count of 9. Dempsey attacks as Ali covers up on the ropes. Dempsey staggers Ali with a combination as the round ends. Dempsey's best round. [Ali = Broken jaw.] Dempsey 10-8. (Ali 105-103.)

    12. Ali is on the move with Dempsey chasing him. Dempsey seems unable to catch him for the most part but does manage to land 1 good right hand to the jaw. Ali winces but stays up. Dempsey misses with a wild left hook near the end. Dempsey 10-9. (Ali 114-113.)

Ali wins by decision. There is talk of a possible long count in round 11. :yep :p
