As a fighter, what is your opinion of Amir Khan now? Please vote

No personal comments about Khan please, just thoughts on his fighting abilities.

10 options, very nice. Khan clearly has talent, great speed and solid technique, but I really doubt that he's going to beat any serious puncher he comes across, which is obviously going to hinder his career.

Options 5 and 8 cover my view on him.

 

He seems to have the right mentality. If he can cope with the inevitable losses that will come in his career, I think he will do alright. Perhaps pick up another world title or two, have some solid wins against good opposition to go with embarrassingly brutal KO loses.

Roach seems to be maximising his talent, although Kotelnik was tailor made. I see him troubling a Top 10 P4P list at some point, although I doubt he'll rise to the lofty heights of the Top 5. I'd like to see someone give a definitive assessment of his power, because I'm not sure whether he had any to begin with, or if he hasn't carried it up to 140, or if he does have power at the weight but just hasn't had the opportunity to show it yet.

There was a lot of pity-pat punches and shoe-shine combo's going on against Kotelnik and I don't think the accuracy was quite what it should have been, but overall I was really impressed with his abilities. He was getting in and out really quickly, and seemed very disciplined and intelligent in terms of tactics and how he applied his game-plan.

 

I re-watched the Kotelnik fight a couple of days ago.

Khan takes some very solid punches.....and takes them well.

I think the whole glass-jawed thing is over-played. That Prescott punch would have floored a horse. Sure, if he really gets caught flush then he might go down again, but he's got the right mentor now to teach him to stay out of that kind of trouble.

I think he'll be around for a while.

 

Even though there are plenty of options, none accurately express my opinion.

I feel that Freddie will select Khan's opponents very carefully. Therefore Khan will be a long term beltholder, without actually unifying any division. I also believe he will be a multi weight world champion.

He will suffer a few losses before the end of his career, but I expect him to finish his career with a record something like 40-3-0

 

Khan has the skills, and under Roach he's got a great trainer that compliments his style.

I think he'll prove to be a regular in top 10 P4P lists over the next decade, however, will never be a p4p #1

 

Khan has great talent, but I believe his chin will fail him and so he will not have a good career - thats what i voted for.

He is a very good fighter but he's been knocked down at 4 times in his career thus far an Kotelnik is the best he's faced (forget about a cut and shot Barrera). To his credit he's gotten up from all those knockdowns and won convincingly but that chin is too much of a liability, it will b his downfall.

There'll always b doubts about him whenever he faces a big puncher and every puncher knows they still have a chance till the final bell

 

Thats what im thinking too...Any fighter who get hit with that punch would definitely get KTFO...

His fights will be picked carefully, although I feel he has tightened up quite well even someone slow and plodding like Urango would be able to get him into some trouble quite easily.

Maidana is about the worst style I can think of for Khan.

he obviously has talent, but he also has so many bad habits its good to see roach has installed some much needed defensive instincts.

i think Khan will go on to have a decent career with a lot of ups and downs big wins and unexpected loses, i don't think he's fully mature yet and won't reach his peak untill about his mid 20s

the biggest problem for Khan at this stage is that his boxing IQ is suspect to say the least and it needs to improve rapidly, he seems to be a very good and quick learner, but he also doesn't have a clue whats good for him, he doesn't know his identity as a fighter yet and whatever he's told he'll and thats not always a positive.

he has that air of a fast brawler and we know what roach has done for another guy who was a fast brawler, someone like shane mosley was what i would call a fast brawler too and look what he's done so there's a lot hope for the kid.

 

There should be an option for:

'Is a top level fighter but not the best, will be carefully managed and fight older greats past their prime, smaller greats and weak belt holders. He will manufacture himself as a Top 10 P4P fighter but lose against the Elite he faces.'

I could see him facing and beating a past prime Hatton, someone like Juan Diaz, maybe fight Madianna as although hes a banger hes easyish to outbox, maybe beat a past it Marquez after Floyd softens him up. PRobably avoid dangermen like Witter/Bradley/Guzman, beat a weak 147lb titlist and get his ass kicked by FMJ if he's still around.

 

The same thing I though before. Good enough to be a world champion but not good enough to hold onto it for a long time or unify or anything of that sort. I think he'll be a multi time champion when all is said and through but the sort of guy who's handicapped by a major major flaw.
