Ike Quartey was a pretty decent fighter he gave a hungry Oscar De La Hoya problems if he wasnt inactive for over a year he more than likely would have handed him his first loss. Quartey could have been much better than he was if he didnt take long breaks he would fight about once every year for a while and I think he took a few years off, but if he kept fighting he would have likely been a 2 maybe 3 division champion and could still be a contender today

Hmmm must be a ghanian thing. These guys fight once a year and loose at the top level and still think they deserve the right to fight at the same level. Status is earned not granted.

Not neccisarily, its a popularity thing. They see other guys getting big fights after losses and want it too but if you aint a big name then you go to work your way back up.

Certain guys like DLH, Vargas, Hatton, Gatti still get big fights even right after losses because they are popular and promotable.

Guys like Winky or Clottey will have a harder time. It upsets me when those guys get a bad decision against a popular guy because then they are thrown on the back burner where as the popular guy would still get big fights.

These days its not about how good of a fighter you are its how promoteable you are and its sad they dont really look at your boxing skills its attractiveness not necessarily good looks which can play a determining factor but how you fight like are your fights action packed, will you sell tickets, will you attract an audience, and Quartey didnt do any of that his losses were to great fighters and 2 of them future hall of famers but the promoters and fighters didnt really look at his talent or his overall boxing ability and fighters werent gonna fight him because he wasnt gonna bring them any money to the table and if they lost to him it would be detrimental to their careers but do nothing for his and thats one of the problems with boxing. Quartey could have stayed active but he chose not to he could have got kept fighting and work his name up and then get another opportunity down the line or at least fight to stay busy, but he didnt do any of that he pretty made his money and left, then when he needed more he came back and fought a few good fights and fought winky and was done

I agree with you on that one and I think Andre Berto is currently one of those protected fighters that will always have the edge over a guy like Collaso.
