Im curiouse if any poster's here met Lamotta & what there impressions are. Ive read alot of people dont like him but others find him funny.Anything would be interesting to hear.
I met him once in the 70's going on a train with his family and another time at the airport and was on the same plane with him in the 90's...He had an attitude the first time but a joking attitude and the next time he was real nice
I have noticed your a big conteh fan, as i am! how do you think conteh vs monzon would of went, it was close to happening ut it fell through last minute
I met Jake many times. He was, or is, one mean guy. Joe Miceli once told me that he was the only guy he wouldn't fight. Joe said he was an animal. Approx. 22 years ago I took my future wife Joyce to a show that he was doing in New Jersey. When we got their the man in charge, who I knew very well, told me that he had 2 places for us, one was in the middle and the other was right by the stage. Joyce said she wanted to sit by the stage, right up front. I told her that Jake liked blonds (Joyce was & still is a blond) and it might not be to good to sit right their. Well, she still wanted too, saying "what is he going to do." We sat right by the stage and when Jake came out he walked right up to Joyce and said, "Hello Blondie," what's your name? She said, JJJOOOYYYCCCEEE and he kidded her all night long. After the show was over, he asked the guy in charge if I was upset. I told him no and I thought it was pretty funny. He met us afterwards and we all had a good laugh.
Enjoyed the story, HH. Another dimension to a fighter that ranks near the top of interesting characters. :good
Thanks, another time he came to a function that I was running and he said that he didn't want to be noticed, so don't tell anyone he was their. He wore a bright RED SUIT with a BIG WHITE hat. I said, I thought you didn't want to be noticed. He said, I guess I can't hide even if I wanted too, ha ha. We also roasted him several times and even roasted his ex-wife Vicky once.
That's funny! I guess he figured, I got the friggin' hat on. Jake's an interesting guy, right? More complex maybe than we would think. So, the Jake you know can be funny and amiable? My dad knew him, came close to fighting him. The only thing he ever told me was once, years after they had both retired, my dad walks into the office of a TV personality in Pittsburgh. He had gotten the word that someone wanted to see him. So, he goes in and who's sitting there but Jake, who looks and says, "Aren't you glad you didn't fight me?"
Good Stuff. I asked him once about the Raging Bull picture, if he was as bad as the movie had him. He said, NO, I was much worse then that.
Very interesting stuff Henry ,as usual.Just to let you know roasting has a much different interpretation in the UK:good
