Calzaghe should get less credit nowadays for beating Lacy.. True or False?

Well, to be fair to Calzaghe he did have a lot of problems with his hands and I think he injured one of them in the mid rounds of the Lacy fight. A Calzaghe of a few years previously would have forced a stoppage.

Lacy as a scalp has lessened in recent years. All that "Oh he was overated" must've been a bit galling for Joe. Wonder if that influenced his decission to take on RJJ instead. Reasoning that "Pavlik is the big name now but the moment I beat him they'll all say he was overated and not give me any credit anyway. **** it, I get better paid against Jones as well!"
Still came off as a bit hypocritical to fight Jones after what he said in his autobiography however.

    Dosen't make any sense whatsoever.:huh

As for Lacy, well if we are totally honest he WAS over hyped and overated. But it was still a marvellous exhibition by Calzaghe.
Everyone knows that Oscar was dead against Pac but it was still a breathtaking performance by Manny as well.

Lacy was over hyped and never anything that good in my opinion but you have to give Calzaghe credit for the way he beat Lacy, it was a masterclass.

Also, one of the reasons why some people where giving Lacy such a good chance was not necessarily because of Lacy's ability but because Calzaghe had recently been dropped by Mitchell and Salem and had looked fairly unimpressive against Salem and Ahira. Add this to the fact that Calzaghe was approaching 34 going into the Lacy fight meant that certain people in the sport (mainly team Lacy)thought Lacy was getting Calzaghe at the right time.

I remember Max moleyneaux being the most vocal. He was baiting the american posters how Lacy was crap and was going to be outclassed by Joe. Of course they thought he was insane. Joe was thought little better than a bum by some posters here.

This is a punching game and Calzaghe is a disgrace at it.

This is a different Jeff Lacy.

    Calzaghe took his heart.

This truly was Joe's career defining fight, there was so much on the line and he proved he was legit to everybody who witnessed. A boxing masterclass.

Lacy damaged his arm pretty severely at some point and I don't remember him hurting people after that like he was able to at one time... when did he hurt his arm, before or after the Joe C. fight?

Hell no. He deserves a lot of credit, the man was overlooked so bad before this fight NO ONE can deny it and if Lacy is ruined then it's because of absorbing over 1000 punches against Calzaghe.

After, I believe he suffered an injury in the rematch against Tsypko.
