Explain To Me Why The General Concensus Is That Pacman Will Ko Cotto...

It's all about defense here and we know Cotto's defense isn't good enough. Cotto has been hit by many fighters and when you take punches from the very predictable, one dimensional, **** slow Margarito and in combinations then you know there's a major issue with defense there.

As Roach said, it all comes down to speed. Cotto took punches HE SAW coming from Margarito was rockked/hurt, imagine punches in bunches from the extremely power and fast Pacquiao?, nearly all of Pacman's power punches won't be seen by Pacquiaao who will look to charge in with his head down welcoming Pacquiao's vicious uppercuts.

If Cotto doesn't get KO'd as I expect him to, he will hit the canvas and numerous times all the way to a decision victory for Pacman. Pac won't be standing in one place, he can keep the punches up while constantly moving and turning Cotto, Cotto needs to set his self to throw and land his own, Pac won't allow him to do that with the leg movement he has that he could keep up for full 12 with his insane stamina.

Cotto is not very hard to hit. I keep hearing about his underrated boxing skills but the truth is, his foot movement is too slow for me to ever consider him a good boxer. If you look at his best wins they have come when he is the one applying the pressure. When he boxes he either barley holds on (Mosley and Clottey) or gets beat (margarito).

So Cotto is easy to hit and has shown that he can be hurt and Manny is an extremly fast handed and accurate puncher. If you don't look past that it seems logical to think that Manny will KO him.

That being said, you do need to look past those things. Cotto is definatly not the most durable guy in the division but he can take a hit. On top of that he has the perfect weapon to take away some of manny's speed and power, a ferocious body attack. If he can survive the early onslaught that Manny will inevitable dish out he has a very good chance of wearing him down and being the one to score the stoppage.

 

And maybe something else Margo may have done as well.

 

Because Cotto takes a long time to set himself before he punches, so unless he does work to speed up his approach Pacquiao will be getting off first and be the one dictating the pace with superior hand and foot speed.

Because Cotto has shown a tendency to cut badly, and with the way Pac uses a slashing offense he's virtually certain to cut or bruise Cotto during the fight. (And possible collisions between a southpaw and orthodox stance only add to that). A bad cut could either end the fight on a TKO or set Cotto up for it.

Because Cotto still tends to keep his hands and arms split rather than keeping a tight guard, and Pac will be busting through/around that all night.

Because the greatest trouble Manny has had with any style recently is with counterpunchers, but Cotto's best approach is as a stalker.

Because Cotto disdains tying people up but can't dodge Pac's blows all night long.

Because Cotto just doesn't look as good as he was or as confident pre-Margarito.

All reason why I think Pac will win. Note, I don't particularly think Pac will KO Cotto, (unless he digs up another ridiculous shot like the one that put Hatton to sleep), but I think a stoppage on cuts, by the ref, or a UD are very good possibilities.

 

I definitely believe Cotto has the natural tools to beat Manny. But this is MY THEORY
I think the fight that really affected Cotto was the Mosley fight. Much more than the MArgarito fight. WHY??? winning against such an experienced fighter and such a big name made Cotto feel unbeatable. Against Gomez we saw a Cotto with a whole different attitude. One that I don't like. I honestly hated it. And he paid the price when he tried to do the same against Margarito. I honestly thought he was going to lose against Clottey(but I was praying for him to win). Clottey is as strong and difficult as they come. I think Cotto did a hell of a job. But he has to step it up if he wants to beat MAnny. He can win, but he hast to show up in the best shape ever. And I am not sure Cotto will do that. I don't think he is as dedicated to the gym as Pacquiao, Floyd, or Mosley. And that could cost him the fight. OF course he will make enough money that he could easily retire. The problems with his group dont make me feel any better. He needs excellent sparring partners for this training camp. May be even talk to DLH to see if he could use the Big Bear, CA place. I just hope he understand how hard this fight will be.

That's true, but he was still getting hit and I think Scar's point is that if Margarito was hitting him a decent amount, then a guy with more speed, who gives better angles, and has much better timing will land even more, leading to Cotto being more effected because he wont see the shots coming.

I know there's differences in styles, but Judah was landing a lot early as well. There's no question that Pac will land. I think the issue is whether or not he can hurt Cotto. We'll see come fight night but I definitely think he can.

 

I am a huge Pacman fan but even i think this will be a very tough match for Pac...Cotto's subpar defense will leave him open to get hit(alot) but i dont think he'll get KOd....Margarito beat the living **** out that man but didnt KO him and Pac beat the **** outta DLH but didnt KO him....It is a chance Pac wins easily but by KO i just cant see that happening....plus Cotto has the power to back him up when he get hurt.....Pac by UD

 

Exactly. Margarito was much bigger that Cotto so the relentless pressure took its toll til he cud take no more. Pacquiao is nowhere near the size of Margarito so theoretically the pressure shudnt b as intense as Maragarito. I'm one of the ppl that dont c Cotto bein knocked out. He's tasted Mosley's power and stoop up to it so I dont think Pacquiao will be anle to knock him out with power alone, it'd have to b accumulation.

On the other hand I think there shud b a question mark on whether Manny will b able to able Cotto's power, he hasnt faced real WW power yet.

Bottom line. I think if there's gna b a knockout it wont b Cotto on the floor
