Is Cotto able to weigh as much as he wants come fight night?

No 2lbs is nothing with four months to do it in.

Cotto is not a runner or a marathon competitor, he has plenty of body fat he could lose.

No, it was 170, in a 149 pound fight. Still gained over 21 pounds, although the fight night weigh-in was with gloves and clothes on.

And don't forget that Corrales himself weighed something like 163, and that they had to move the fight up to 149 because Corrales still couldn't make weight at 147.

 

And they mainly cut by eliminating the water in their system. Cotto came in 146 and he looked fine. 1 more lb would mean 10-15 minutes more running or cycling in the sauna or something.

 

Cotto normally weighs 10 more pounds or more on fight night. If he weighs just 7 pounds or lower it will hurt his body come fight night. It's not fair if it's in the contract. It will proof that Roach don't want Pacquiao to face a healthy Cotto. But if you don't see that then you got a problem.

 

Clottey was 170 with clothes, shoes and other stuff on so he was probably closer to 165 when he fought Corrales.

Not if it's for a title. When fighting for the welter weight title, each fighter is allowed to weigh in at 147. If there is a condition imposed on one of the fighters demanding that he weigh less, then the welterweight title should not be on the line.

The fight at 145 is fine. Just no title.

Contracted fights for fights are sometimes a little above the weight limit (Clottey-Castillo, Gatti-Ward, Spinks-Johnson).

Strangely, Clottey didn't put on that much after the weigh-in in other fights, like in the Zab Judah. He was 156, a lot lower than he was for Corrales.

Maybe he was fully clothed and had his wallet and keys and other stuff when he weighed in unofficially at 170.
